Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases — diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
• Cardiac experience preferred (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op); fresh open hearts are typically assigned to permanent staff
• Patient ratios: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), acuity dependent
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
• 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating to adult floors (including Med/Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio) possible if overstaffed

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or compact license valid in South Dakota required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (required prior to start)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience) strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights
• Orientation includes a hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation with iLearns, one 4-hour iLearns completion session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
• Travelers may occasionally be expected to precept students
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August each year); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise
• First-time travelers are not accepted — a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking available on site
