Electrical Apprentice

Electrical Apprentice – MetroPower Electrical Apprentices assist Electricians in the performance of electrical tasks such as pulling cable, installing devices, repairing electrical equipment, and reading blueprints. The position requires the apprentice to enroll in a 4-year Department of Labor (DOL) Registered Apprenticeship Program. Some travel will be required. Pay is dependent on experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Works under the direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician and demonstrates safe work habits and proper care of tools and equipment. Assists with materials handling, installation of materials, devices and equipment. Identify and eliminate hazardous conditions at the job site. Maintain the job site in a safe, neat and orderly condition. Handle and stage materials, equipment and tools. Assist with layout, wire pulls and installation. May be required to operate heavy equipment. Assist with cable tray installations, device installations, and lighting connections. Receive On‑the‑Job Learning (OJL) as part of the apprenticeship program. Attend class and make satisfactory progress with apprenticeship program completion. Safely operate hand and power tools. Read and interpret instructions, maps, and manuals. Exhibit a positive safety attitude and personal integrity. Legally operate company vehicles and equipment. Working Conditions Job requires working in all elements (rain, snow, heat, etc.). Must keep work tools with them at all times (work belt, bag, etc.). Use all types of ladders, including step ladders up to 14 feet, “A” Frame and all sizes of extension ladders and relocate a 12‑foot ladder by one’s self. Perform work at various heights, up to 90 feet from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and cat walks and be able to work in restricted areas. Wear protective personal equipment (PPE). Provide I‑9 documents to establish work eligibility. Evidence of High School Diploma or GED; high school transcript, if necessary. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. DD 214 (if veteran). Physical Requirements Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, physical and background check. Good color acuity (determine wire colors). Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, push, pull & reach overhead. Able to work at least 40 hour weeks and overtime and night shift, as needed. Lift at least 50 pounds.
