Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a VT or compact license, at least 2 years of ED experience, and prior travel assignment experience.

Details

• Critical access hospital Emergency Department with 10-14 bed capacity, Trauma Level IV
• Patient population ranges from newborn to geriatric
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
• Staffing includes 3-4 RNs per shift, an ED tech 24/7, and a charge nurse assigned 24/7
• One MD scheduled 24 hours with mid-level coverage from 0930-2130
• No interventional radiology or cath lab on site; STEMI, stroke, and trauma patients transported to higher level of care
• Uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
• Utilizes Telemedicine and Telestroke consultations through UVMMC
• Special equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Phillips monitors, and Ranger blood warmer
• 12-hour rotating shifts covering evenings and nights, with possible mid shifts to fill gaps
• Scheduled shift options include 7a-7p, 11a-11p, 3p-3a, and 7p-7a
• Every other weekend required at minimum, with schedule flexibility to meet unit needs
• No floating required
• Holiday coverage required with schedule flexibility

Requirements

• Active VT RN license or compact license required
• Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
• Proof of TNCC class enrollment with applied date accepted if certification pending
• NIHSS certification required prior to start
• Minimum 2 years of in-unit ED experience required
• At least one completed travel assignment required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Epic experience within the past 2 years required
• Comfortable performing ESI triage, IV insertion, drips/infusions, EKGs, restraint application, procedural sedation, and ambulance transports
• Reliable personal or rental vehicle required due to lack of public transportation in the area

Additional Information

• Provide emergency care to patients across all age groups in a rural, critical access hospital setting
• May be asked to accompany STEMI, stroke, or trauma patients during transport to higher levels of care
• Manager/supervisor available on-call during off hours for support
• Candidates should be prepared to discuss willingness to precept new nurses and experience in a critical access or rural ED setting
• Bi-weekly orientations held on Mondays
• No block scheduling permitted
• First-time travelers may be considered given required prior travel experience
