For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.Primary Responsibilities: Technical accounting analysis and researchCollaborating with other technical accounting policy teamsMaintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports for complex groups Reconcile, analyze and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end closePrepare journal entries and reviews accounting classifications, in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles Prepare documentation in support of external and internal auditsPerform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and interpretationAnalyze and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and statements of financial positionAssist with or lead the month end quarterly end close process for assigned businesses or groupsPerforms work in a self-directed manner and works with less structured, more complex issues Serve as a resource and mentor other staffDevelop innovative approaches for continued improvement in efficiency and effectivenessProvide leadership on projects and initiatives to improve the accounting and finance functionYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications: 5+ years of professional accounting experienceExperience in public accountingDemonstrated expert level of understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statementsDemonstrated intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft ExcelPreferred Qualifications: Experience in healthcareExperience with Hyperion Essbase, PeopleSoft Financials, or Microsoft Access*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.
