Senior Accountant

Programmable Medicine is a pre-revenue, clinical‑stage biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing innovative therapies for patients with serious diseases. The company operates across multiple legal entities and partners with external CROs, CMOs, and research institutions globally. Backed by leading venture capital investors, Programmable Medicine is building a scalable technical operations function to support rapid growth and pipeline advancement. The Position The Senior Accountant will support the accounting operations of a multi‑entity biotech development and services organization. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, this role is responsible for executing key aspects of the close process, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting complex accounting areas including intercompany transactions, revenue recognition, and cost accounting. This role partners closely with FP&A by providing accurate financial data and accounting support. Candidates must be able to work full days, on site at our corporate headquarters in Redwood City, a minimum of 3 days per week and as required based on business needs. Key responsibilities include: Execute assigned components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close under the direction of accounting management Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules across multiple legal entities Perform intercompany accounting, including transaction recording, reconciliations, and support for eliminations; assist with multi‑entity consolidation Support revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, including contract‑ and milestone‑based arrangements common in CRO/CDMO environments Assist with cost accounting activities, including inventory, standard costing, and manufacturing variance analysis Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies Support internal controls, including documentation and audit support Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits and tax compliance Provide accurate financial data and accounting support to FP&A, including actuals and variance support Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within accounting Support ERP system integrity and reporting enhancements Your Background Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (CPA or CPA‑track preferred) 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in CRO, CDMO, or biotech/pharma Experience with intercompany accounting and multi‑entity consolidation Understanding of revenue recognition (ASC 606), including contract‑ and milestone‑based arrangements Exposure to cost or inventory accounting preferred Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) Strong attention to detail and accuracy Solid technical accounting foundation Clear and effective communication with internal stakeholders Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment What we can offer you We have a comprehensive total compensation package including fully paid medical, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family. The Company also offers participation in the annual bonus program along with a new hire equity program. The salary range for candidates located in the Bay Area is $100,000 - $130,000 annually. We consider various factors when determining the base compensation, including market survey data, experience, and directly related qualifications, which means that the actual compensation may vary depending on the candidate’s knowledge and experience.
