Job Title: MIG Welder – 1st Shift Job Description

Join a clean, well-organized fabrication shop as a 1st shift MIG Welder, performing production and structural welding on aluminum, stainless steel, and structural steel components. You will read and interpret blueprints, set up and adjust welding equipment, and help fabricate products that support critical industrial and data center applications. This role is ideal for an experienced MIG welder who enjoys steady, non-strenuous work in a supportive and welcoming team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on structural steel, aluminum, and stainless steel ranging from 7 to 20 gauge thickness.

• Read and interpret blueprints to understand weld symbols, dimensions, and fabrication requirements.

• Accurately read tape measures, including measurements down to 1/16 of an inch, to ensure precise layout and fit-up.

• Set up, dial in, and adjust welding machines, including increasing or decreasing voltage and other parameters as needed for proper weld quality.

• Conduct weld tests as required, including welding metal tubes, tacking components together, and running uphill weld beads.

• Use hand and power tools to fit, fabricate, and finish metal products according to specifications.

• Lift and position materials weighing 50–75 lbs on occasion to place and adjust components for welding.

• Operate JIB cranes to safely move and position materials within the work area.

• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop safety guidelines.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support an efficient and effective manufacturing environment.

• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and quality standards.

• Complete and maintain any required weld certifications, including AWSD 1.2 (6G aluminum) provided by the employer.

• Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to sustain production flow and long-term employment.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of MIG (GMAW) welding experience on aluminum, stainless steel, and/or structural steel.

• Proficiency in blueprint reading for fabrication and welding applications.

• Strong tape measure reading skills, including the ability to pass an 8-question tape measure test down to 1/16 of an inch.

• Ability to independently set up, dial in, and adjust MIG welding machines, including voltage and other parameters.

• Capability to perform uphill welding beads and complete weld tests on metal tubes and fabricated assemblies.

• Experience using hand and power tools for fitting and fabrication work.

• Physical ability to occasionally lift 50–75 lbs and safely handle materials during welding and fabrication.

• Commitment to consistent, dependable attendance and adherence to workplace policies.

• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and steel toe boots.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• TIG welding (GTAW) experience.

• Stick welding (SMAW) experience.

• Forklift experience and ability to operate material handling equipment safely.

• Background working in job shop environments or custom fabrication settings.

• Interest in obtaining AWSD 1.2 weld certification (6G aluminum), which will be provided.

• Familiarity with structural steel, stainless steel, and aluminum fabrication.

• Comfort working across different product lines, including components for power generation, distribution, petro-chemical, transit, municipal, data center, and industrial markets.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, modern manufacturing facility with MIG welding positions available on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts. This posting focuses on 1st shift, running Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., within a 150,000-square-foot plant dedicated to metal enclosed bus systems and related products. The environment is described as very clean and effective, with a comfortable shop floor and an easy-going supervisor who enjoys a positive atmosphere while expecting quality work. The company has expanded its product line to include data cooling centers and various bus products used in cloud and industrial applications, contributing to strong business demand. Dress code includes jeans, a shirt, steel toe boots, and safety glasses, with appropriate PPE required at all times. Good attendance is essential to maintain employment and support the facility’s high standards of productivity and reliability.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Canton, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
