The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts. Additional common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001) and applicants should review the Charter and policies and procedures before applying for position.

Must Have

BS/Apprentice -OR- High School and 4 years combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience -OR- Associate Degree in a Trade/Technical and 3 years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade and/or military experience Internal candidates must have a Superior Attendance and Disciplinary Record. Candidate cannot have more than 3 unexcused absences in the last 180 day period. Candidate cannot have any safety DANS that result in a disciplinary layoff in last 180 day period. Candidate cannot have more than 2 total DANS in the last 180 day period (excluding lost tool). Must be willing and able to work any shift assigned.

Nice to Have

Bachelors/Apprentice OR High School and 6 years related Trade experience Strong working knowledge of the ship construction process with an emphasis on machinery is preferred. Experience as a workleaderman and/or performing Supervisor Re-Rate duties. The candidate must be able to supervise the work of others, motivate and train employees, and possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Depending on assigned area, specific technical, medical and physical requirements may apply.
