Force Management Operations Lead

OverviewLMI seeks a Force Management Operations Lead to support a Department of War mission partner J9 in transitioning validated autonomous capabilities into enduring force structure, doctrine, concepts, organizational design, and modernization plans. The lead develops roadmaps that align capability fielding with force design decisions and coordinates with Service modernization organizations, the Joint Staff, combatant commands, and the J8. The ideal candidate understands how experimentation and operational demand become institutionalized capability across the Joint Force. This position requires on-site support in the National Capital Region and an active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.ResponsibilitiesLead force modernization and force management activities that transition validated autonomous capabilities into enduring Joint and Service structures.Develop modernization roadmaps aligning concepts, requirements, experimentation, acquisition, fielding, doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, facilities, and policy.Coordinate with Service modernization commands, the Joint Staff, combatant commands, requirements organizations, capability developers, program offices, and operational users.Translate operational lessons, threat developments, experiments, and technology assessments into force design and institutionalization recommendations.Synchronize J9 modernization priorities with J8 portfolio, requirements, acquisition, and resourcing decisions.Develop concepts of operation, force design options, organizational constructs, transition plans, implementation schedules, and measures of effectiveness.Conduct Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities, and Policy assessments and identify integration gaps.Support concept development, capability-based assessments, requirements documentation, force design updates, and modernization governance forums.Track transition criteria, decisions, milestones, dependencies, risks, and ownership from experimentation through fielding and institutional adoption.Prepare decision papers, modernization assessments, roadmaps, briefings, and executive summaries for senior leaders.Identify policy, doctrine, organizational, training, or personnel changes required to employ autonomous systems effectively.Represent LMI in force modernization, futures, concept development, force design, and capability integration working groups.QualificationsRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in force management, military studies, national security, operations research, engineering, acquisition, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.Eight or more years of experience in force modernization, force design, capability development, concept development, requirements, force management, or a closely related Department of Defense function.Active TS/SCI clearance.Knowledge of Joint and Service force development, modernization, requirements, and institutional change processes.Experience conducting Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities, and Policy analysis.Experience converting operational needs, experiments, lessons learned, and technology assessments into modernization roadmaps and transition plans.Ability to coordinate complex actions across combatant commands, Military Services, Joint Staff elements, program offices, and operational organizations.Strong analytical writing, executive briefing, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.Ability to identify dependencies, sequence institutional actions, and maintain traceability from concept through fielding.Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and planning or requirements management tools.Desired Qualifications:Experience supporting the Joint Staff J7 or J8, a combatant command futures or modernization organization, a Service modernization command, or a Special Operations Forces organization.Experience with Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System processes, capability-based assessments, force design updates, or concept development.Experience institutionalizing artificial intelligence, autonomy, robotics, uncrewed systems, cyber, space, or other emerging technology.Graduate education or professional certification in force management, acquisition, systems engineering, project management, or strategic planning.Target salary range: $178,000 - $220,000Disclaimer: The salary range displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is not a guarantee of compensation.
