Be one of the first to apply — offer rates tend to be higher at this stage Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Whole House Float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring VA or compact RN licensure. Details Whole House Float role covering ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical (MS) units Must be comfortable working across all three specialties Night shift, 3x12 hours (6:45pm-7:15am) EPIC charting experience required Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, so floating may occur 2-3 times per shift Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract (two holidays during winter holiday period) Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks Requirements Active VA State or Compact RN license required (single-state license accepted only if from a non-compact state and pending) Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (CPI preferred) Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I or II trauma facility Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration required Proficient in trach management, non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP), ventilator management, and chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac) Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips Experience with IV insulin protocols and 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition preferred EPIC charting system experience required Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred Additional Information Work in a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital, the region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics Magnet-designated facility affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Provide direct patient care across ICU, PCU, and MS units based on daily staffing needs First-time travelers are welcome to apply Local candidates within 100 miles (measured from driver's license address) are not accepted Candidates residing 50-99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility Candidates residing less than 50 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no extension eligibility Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront with the application These details are based on information provided by the facility and may include inaccuracies or be subject to updates.
