Job Summary

Position Summary
The Manager, Absences & Accommodations leads a team supporting employees and managers through leave, disability, and workplace accommodation processes. Reporting to the Director, Absences & Accommodations, this role ensures consistent case execution, compliance, high-quality service, and a positive employee experience across FMLA, ADA, STD, LTD, state and local leave programs, and accommodation requests.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of leave and accommodation advisors through coaching, feedback, and performance management.
• Oversee daily case operations, including assignments, workload balancing, service levels, documentation quality, and timely follow-up.
• Ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, quality standards, and escalation protocols.
• Review complex or high-risk cases and partner with Legal, Employee Relations, HR, and leadership as needed.
• Conduct audits, calibrations, and coaching to improve accuracy, compliance, and the employee experience.
• Drive process, workflow, communication, and system improvements.
• Support effective use of leave management systems, HRIS platforms, reporting tools, and automation.
• Partner with HR, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, vendors, and business leaders to resolve issues and maintain consistent practices.
• Ensure clear, timely, and compliant employee and manager communications.
• Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of advisors and stakeholders.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and translate updates into processes, training, and operations.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• 5+ years of experience in leave administration, disability management, accommodations, benefits, or related HR functions.
• 2+ years of leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and workload oversight.
• Strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, STD, LTD, and state and local leave laws.
• Experience managing case-based operations, quality assurance, compliance-focused workflows, and escalations.
• Experience with leave management systems, HRIS platforms, AI tools, reporting, audits, vendor management, and process improvement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong knowledge of leave, disability, and accommodation laws and practices.
• Proven ability to lead teams, drive accountability, and build capability.
• Sound judgment in complex situations, balancing compliance, employee support, and business needs.
• Strong communication, coaching, relationship management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret policies and legal requirements and apply them consistently.
• Experience using data and reporting to identify trends and improve outcomes.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across HR, Legal, Employee Relations, Payroll, Benefits, vendors, and business leaders.
• Adaptability and experience leading teams through change.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HRIS platforms, leave management systems, reporting tools, AI, and related technology.
