Staff Accountant/Payroll

Tampa, FL | Hybrid Schedule

$65,000 - $75,000 Annual Salary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with Payroll experience to join our accounting team. This hybrid role combines hands-on payroll administration with general accounting responsibilities, including reconciliations, month-end close activities, reporting, and audit support.

The ideal candidate has experience processing multi-state payroll, maintaining accurate financial records, and collaborating across departments to ensure compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

• Process regular, supplemental, bonus, commission, and special payrolls accurately and on time
• Review timekeeping records, payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, and payroll funding for accuracy
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Reconcile payroll liabilities, payroll tax accounts, retirement plan contributions, and employee benefit deductions
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Prepare payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and support general ledger maintenance
• Perform variance analysis and assist with financial reporting
• Prepare labor cost, payroll, commission, overtime, and headcount reports for management

Compliance & Audit Support

• Support external audits, including financial statement, retirement plan, and compliance audits
• Maintain documentation and supporting schedules for audit requests
• Assist with strengthening internal controls, procedures, and process improvements

Team Support

• Provide accounting backup support and participate in special projects
• Collaborate with Human Resources, accounting staff, auditors, and third-party providers to ensure smooth operations

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred
• MUST HAVE - ADP Workforce Now recent experience (non-negotiable)
• 3+ years of payroll, payroll accounting, or general accounting experience
• Experience processing multi-state payroll
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage recurring deadlines
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities

Pay Details: $65,000.00 to $75,000.00 per year
