We are seeking experienced Genetic Counselors to join a national virtual genomics program supporting U.S. Veterans. In this fully remote role, you will provide comprehensive genetic counseling services, collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and help improve access to specialized genetic care for patients across the country.

This is an exciting opportunity to practice at the forefront of genomic medicine while supporting one of the largest integrated healthcare systems in the United States. Genetic Counselors will work collaboratively with Medical Geneticists and healthcare providers to deliver evidence-based genetic services to Veterans and their families.

Key Responsibilities

As a Genetic Counselor, you will:

• Conduct virtual genetic counseling consultations for Veterans and their families.
• Review medical records and family histories.
• Educate patients regarding genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, recurrence risks, and available testing options.
• Identify appropriate genetic testing strategies and coordinate test ordering.
• Communicate genetic testing results and findings to patients.
• Collaborate with physicians, laboratory partners, and healthcare teams to support patient care.
• Document patient encounters and clinical activities within the electronic health record.
• Provide education and resources that help patients and families understand and adapt to genetic information.
• Support program development, quality initiatives, and educational outreach activities.

What You'll Work With

Patients may present with a wide range of genetic concerns, including:

• Hereditary cancer syndromes
• Cardiovascular genetics
• Neurological genetics
• Endocrine disorders
• Adult-onset hereditary conditions
• Reproductive and preconception genetic concerns

You will work closely with board-certified Medical Geneticists through a virtual care model.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

• Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.
• Board Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or eligible to obtain certification as required.
• Current unrestricted state license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively educate patients and healthcare teams.
• Experience using electronic health records and telehealth platforms.

Preferred

• Multiple active state licenses.
• Previous telehealth or virtual healthcare experience.
• Experience within hospital, academic medical center, or federal healthcare settings.
• Experience counseling patients for hereditary cancer, cardiovascular, neurological, and complex genetic conditions.
• Familiarity with genetic testing laboratories and genomic medicine workflows.

Work Environment

This position is fully remote. Team members are expected to maintain a secure, private workspace with reliable internet connectivity and comply with all telehealth, privacy, and information security requirements. Equipment and system access necessary for patient care will be provided following onboarding and security approval.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract position based out of Frederick, MD.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
