International Spy Museum
The Curator serves as the primary content developer for exhibitions at the International Spy Museum. This position is responsible for researching and creating content deliverables including exhibition copy, film scripts and other narrative assets. The Curator works with the Vice President of Exhibitions and Collections to conceptualize and develop permanent and temporary exhibitions, update existing exhibit content and recommend changes and initiatives that improve the quality of our exhibitions offerings and showcase our unique collection. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized and experienced museum curator who is able to work collaboratively, adhere to project deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Responsibilities Collaborate as member of an 8-person team that oversees the exhibitions, collections and other educational and interactive content for the Museum. Responsible for researching and developing exhibition content, writing, thematic narratives, artifact selections, film scripts, and other projects for multiple Museum audiences. Work closely with the Museum historian and other content experts to provide the most current and accurate information for Spy Museum content – updating existing content and making suggestions for changes. Work closely with other divisions to provide copy and content for various platforms including the Spy website, press releases, social media, educational publications and other projects as assigned. Work with a focus on innovation, creativity and the most recent interpretive strategies and technologies. Success Traits Excellent writer – experience in developing and writing for museum exhibitions – able to provide strong intellectual leadership and translate complex subjects into messaging for multiple museum audiences. Serial collaborator – able to proactively build relationships with SPY team members and individuals and organizations in academia and the intelligence community to the benefit of the institution. Problem solver – able to solve problems internally and externally from the planning through to final execution stage. Creative thinker – able to generate imaginative ideas for exhibitions, collections, and other institutional priorities. Networker – demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills, fostering strong relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, external partners and potential and current donors. Detail oriented – able to conduct independent and collaborative research with a focus on accuracy, reliability, timeliness and engagement with scholarly work. Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Museum studies. Specialty in intelligence or military history is desirable. Minimum Experience Required Minimum of 8 Years Museum exhibitions experience required, including experience writing scripts, artifact research, website copy, press and promotional materials. Writing samples requested. Skills Preferred A thorough and exacting researcher and writer with experience in exhibitions. An ability to think imaginatively and creatively in a collegial environment. An ability to work effectively with designers and other vendors. Comfortable speaking publicly to a variety of audiences about content and the mission. An ability to connect with people, stakeholders, and organizations. An ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
