The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. Essential Job Functions Plan and teach physical education to K – 12 students. Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. Provide a safe, engaging environment with a focus on physical activity, social skills, and teamwork. Collaborate cooperatively with others regarding behavior and special education needs, resulting in improved overall treatment outcomes. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. Explicitly communicate expectations for student behavior. Follow schedule for classes and provide additional support in the school when not instructing. Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students. Evaluate each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Physical Requirements Must be able to perform physical restraints or containments with an aggressive, physically acting-out child. Working Conditions In-person on campus work/school and treatment environment. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Physical Education K-12 or Special Education license required. One year of previous experience working with groups of high risk children preferred. All candidates must have (or qualify to obtain) a current Colorado driver’s license.
