Human Resources Director

Position Overview:
We are seeking a senior-level Human Resources leader to serve as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for a law practice environment. This role will be responsible for leading the firm’s overall HR strategy, partnering with leadership, and managing all aspects of human resources operations including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, benefits, compliance, training, and HR systems.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of HR management experience within a professional services organization, preferably a law firm/legal environment , with experience operating at a senior leadership level such as Senior HR Manager, HR Director, Associate Director, Assistant VP of HR, or similar roles.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Strategy & Compliance
- Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and initiatives aligned with business goals.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Maintain employee handbook, HR documentation, and compliance practices.
- Advise leadership on HR-related risks and employee matters.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Lead full-cycle recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning.
- Partner with leadership on staffing needs and recruitment strategies.
- Support attorney recruiting efforts, including candidate evaluation and recruitment events.
Compensation & Benefits
- Manage compensation and benefits programs.
- Partner with benefits brokers and oversee benefit administration.
- Review and approve benefit invoices and ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Conduct benefits compliance reviews and required reporting.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Serve as a trusted HR advisor for employee concerns and workplace matters.
- Conduct investigations and resolve employee relations issues.
- Manage performance review processes and support managers with performance improvement plans.
Training & Development
- Partner with leadership to identify employee and attorney development needs.
- Coordinate training programs, workshops, and professional development initiatives.
- Support compliance with attorney Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.
HR Reporting & Technology
- Manage HR reporting, analytics, and workforce metrics.
- Utilize HRIS systems and reporting tools to support business decisions.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee records and HR data.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR technology and processes.
Leadership & Operations
- Manage and mentor HR/staff support teams.
- Participate in senior leadership meetings and company committees.
- Support employee engagement initiatives, appreciation programs, and firm events.
- Oversee office processes, including administrative staff coordination.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Prior experience within a law firm, legal services, or professional services environment required.
- Experience in a senior HR leadership role (Senior Manager, Director, Associate Director, Assistant VP, CHRO, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of employee relations, benefits, compliance, and HR operations.
- Experience with HRIS systems, payroll platforms, and HR analytics.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document management systems such as iManage.
