Music Adjunct Instructor Piano (TEMPORARY)

Position Diablo Valley College invites an adjunct faculty member to teach piano courses (Music 251, 252, 255, Beginning Piano I & II, Intermediate Piano I, and Applied Music Piano). Teaching includes public performances and rehearsals scheduled throughout the semester. Adjunct faculty may be approved for substitute teaching upon approval. All instructors must complete Diablo Valley College’s Becoming an Effective Online Instructor (BEOI) course or an approved equivalent before teaching any online or hybrid course. Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction in accordance with the established curriculum, course outlines, and class schedules. Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas, and promotes critical thinking. Evaluate student progress and grade student work. Meet with students outside of class. Maintain professional conduct and ethics. Maintain current knowledge in the subject areas. Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member. Maintain accurate academic records. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s degree in Music; or Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s degree in Humanities; or Equivalent credentials as determined by the California Community Colleges Academic Senate. Should not have your degree titles an exact match; submit an equivalency form as required. Desirable Qualifications Extensive experience teaching solo and class piano, and piano ensemble. Successful teaching experience in higher education or high school. Experience recruiting students to or guiding them through a community college, bachelor’s, or high school music program. Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including socio‑economic, ethnic, cultural backgrounds, disabilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Dedication to an inclusive and equitable educational environment. Compensation Adjunct instructor classroom faculty pay rate is $77.87 to $128.97 per hour (up to $151.16). Counseling, Librarian, Disabilities Specialist pay rate is $51.37 to $87.77 per hour (up to $100.65).
