Biology Adjunct Instructor (Ecology and the Environment) (TEMPORARY) Los Medanos College Biology Department seeks an enthusiastic teacher to staff an in‑person section of Ecology and the Environment (BioSc 007), a 4‑unit course. The course includes 3 hours of lecture (Wednesdays 9:25 am–12:35 pm) and 3 hours per week of lab (Fridays 9:25 am–12:35 pm) on the Pittsburg campus. Responsibilities Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements. Maintain attendance records and submit them according to published deadlines. Provide classroom instruction in accordance with approved course outlines. Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations and inform students of their progress. Collaborate with course lead(s), department chair(s) and technical personnel to assure college mandates are met and coordinate across course sections. Teach courses during the daytime schedule (9:25 am–12:35 pm) at the Pittsburg campus; some labs will be conducted on site field trips. Job Duties (Adjunct Faculty) Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules. Create and maintain an environment emphasizing learning, discussion and critical thinking. Evaluate student progress and grade work. Meet with students outside of class. Maintain professional conduct and ethics. Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter. Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member. Maintain accurate academic records. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s degree in any biological science, or a Bachelor’s degree in any biological science plus a master’s degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, or equivalent. A combination of education and/or teaching experience that enables effective teaching of an introductory‑level course in ecology with concurrent lab. Excellent teaching ability and community‑college teaching experience. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse community. Attitude that puts students and colleagues at ease, characterized by intellectual humility, kindness and patience.
