As a Transit Police Officer III or IV, you will:
Patrol the total transit system, including facilities, within UTA service areas.
Provide a visible peace officer presence within those jurisdictions.
Inspect passengers in the systems for proof of fare and aid transit patrons as necessary while always maintaining an active public safety presence.
Monitor public behavior for violations of UTA ordinances and Utah law without direct supervision.
Exercise considerable discretion responding to specific situations to protect patrons and the public.
Maintain general law and order, suppress criminal activity, respond to calls for service , make arrests, complete case reports, and issue both civil and criminal citations.
Testify in court as needed and coordinate public safety activities with local law enforcement agencies.
Assess potential risk to public safety and recommend opportunities for loss prevention.
May be assigned by UTA Public Safety management to work in varied functional areas; these could include serving as a trainer in a limited area such as defensive tactics, OC spray, Taser, firearms, or other assignments as needed and required.

This is a Career-Ladder position (meaning, it can be filled by either a Transit Police Officer III or IV, depending on experience).
Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING
5 or more years in law enforcement or corrections.
Demonstrate superior interpersonal communication skills and be able to exercise discretion to assess and take appropriate steps to protect patrons and/or employees against potentially threatening situations.
Officers will be required to carry a firearm and other duty equipment.
Candidates must be Utah P.O.S.T. certified as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) as described within the limits of state statutes or is currently certifiable as a Utah LEO.
Have a valid Utah driver's license, with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years. Cannot have any convictions of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 5 years.
This job requires regular and predictable attendance.
Background Check Requirements
Have no convictions for a civil or criminal offense involving dishonesty, unlawful sexual conduct, physical violence to include domestic violence, DUI, or unlawful sale or possession of a controlled substance, or a criminal conviction involving a felony . (Take out the within 5 years, a DV or felony is an automatic disqualification, POST will not certify them)
As a Public Transit Organization, UTA is required to conduct background screening on all applicants we offer employment. This background screening will include a criminal background check and FTA drug and alcohol screening.
Because this position is in Law Enforcement, employment may be contingent on passing a more comprehensive background investigation, including:

Pay Rate:
Transit Police Officer III $31.30 - $ 37.55 per hour, depending on experience
Transit Police Officer IV $35.24 - $4 2.26 per hour, depending on experience
