Assistant Director of Greek Life and Leadership The Office of Student Life strives to create a student‑centered environment that supports the achievement of students’ academic, professional, and personal goals while promoting civility, respect, integrity, and equity among members of the University and greater community. The assistant director reports to the Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life and assists in the enhancement of the overall development of selective organizations at Howard University. Principal Accountabilities Advising & Council Development – Develops, trains, programs, and advises selective organization student councils, including the Joint Greek Council, National Pan‑Hellenic Council (NPHC), Local‑Based Councils (LBC), Professional and Honors Council (PHC), Council of Independent Organizations (CIO), and other selective membership organizations. Platform & Communication Management – Maintains and updates the program website and manages the Collegiate Link platform (ENGAGE). Creates and distributes the Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) newsletter and oversees departmental social media platforms to enhance visibility, transparency, and engagement. Risk Management & Compliance – Verifies organizational insurance compliance with University and national policies. Reviews and recommends risk management practices for student organizations. Designs and implements compliance and training programs, including a comprehensive anti‑hazing curriculum, ensuring alignment with District of Columbia law and University policy. Training & Education – Facilitates mandatory annual anti‑hazing training for 2,000+ students and 40 organizations. Maintains accurate records of training certifications for organizations and potential members. Investigations & Policy Enforcement – Investigates allegations of hazing and organizational misconduct. Prepares detailed investigative reports, renders findings, assesses policy violations, and collaborates with the Office of Student Conduct on disciplinary outcomes. Program Development & Outreach – Plans, develops, and executes departmental programs, student leadership initiatives, and community‑based outreach. Partners with external entities—community organizations, vendors, and national associations—to deliver large‑scale programming and initiatives. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement – Facilitates cross‑functional collaboration with national headquarters, alumni advisors, and campus stakeholders to ensure accountability, compliance, and sustainable organizational growth. Project & Budget Oversight – Manages multiple concurrent projects, balancing compliance, budget oversight, assessment, and event execution. Supports budget tracking and financial accountability in collaboration with the Associate Director. Leadership Development & Capacity Building – Develops student‑led organizations through capacity‑building initiatives, leadership training, strategic planning, and advocacy efforts, with a focus on equity, inclusion, and long‑term sustainability. Assessment & Reporting – Creates and administers assessment tools to evaluate student engagement, program effectiveness, and organizational compliance. Provides data‑driven reports to inform departmental and institutional decision‑making. Event Management – Reviews and approves Event Request submissions through CollegiateLink (ENGAGE). Advises and supports councils and student groups in event planning, execution, and compliance. Policy Enforcement – Enforces Howard University and Office of Campus Life policies, rules, expectations, and the Student Code of Conduct. Work Schedule & Supervision – Maintains a flexible schedule, including standard office hours (9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.) with occasional evening and weekend commitments. Participates in weekly supervisory check‑ins. Other Duties – Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor and the Executive Director of Student Life. Core Competencies Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Workday, and related software applications. Knowledge of general office procedures and practices. Knowledge of basic record‑keeping procedures. Basic arithmetic, grammar, and spelling skills. Effective oral and written communication. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students, and the public. Exceptional customer service approach. Cultural competence in respecting diversity across all dimensions. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field preferred. 3‑5 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, student engagement, or related fields. Fun, positive, organized, helpful, student‑centered, friendly, and responsible attitude. Demonstrated sense of job responsibility, initiative, energy, leadership, approachability, and maturity. Ability to adjudicate student conduct matters, handle crisis situations and sensitive topics. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume, collaborative environment. Commitment to ethical fiscal and professional service standards and meaningful contribution to team projects. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Compensation Salary range: $65,000 to $75,000.
