Overview Miami Jewish Health is a leading healthcare provider for aging adults located on a beautiful 20+ acre campus in Miami. We serve approximately 1,200 patients and residents each year, offering long‑term care, treatment, support, and post‑hospitalization services. Job Title Speech Language Pathologist (MJH) Job Summary Prevents, evaluates, treats, and diagnoses speech, language, social communication, cognitive‑communication, and swallowing disorders. Develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate interventions, strategies, and materials, collaborates with physicians, family members, and the healthcare team, and provides training and education to family/caregivers and other professionals. Essential Job Functions Completes a comprehensive evaluation and plan of care Develops an appropriate and comprehensive treatment plan for each participant to maximize potential Begins discharge planning and involves the patient, family, and/or caregiver in establishing goals for rehabilitation and discharge planning, as evidenced in the documentation Reviews patient status at regular intervals and changes the treatment program as necessary Monitors therapy utilization for appropriateness and alignment with regulatory requirements Participates in and provides in‑service education to facilities, supportive staff, students, and the community Attends departmental and interdisciplinary team meetings Establishes a cooperative working relationship between the IDT, rehab team, and members of the medical community Supervises and trains support personnel Monitors documentation for coding, progress notes, daily notes, charge capture, demographics, evaluation, and discharge notes for accuracy and timing Maintains consistently 90% productivity Identifies potential problem situations, intervenes appropriately, and communicates such events to supervisor Performs related non‑clinical services necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the speech therapy area and adjusts schedule as required to meet participant needs Utilizes appropriate safety measures when providing care to participants and other job duties Demonstrates willingness to work across clinical service lines, including inpatient, outpatient, and PACE as needed Education Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited school. Experience One year in speech language pathology with experience working with the geriatric population preferred. Licenses/Certifications Florida Licensed Speech Language Pathologist Current BLS certification Certified with the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (CCC‑SLP) preferred Abilities Required Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body mechanics and body substance precautions to protect self, patients, and personnel working with therapist Effective written and oral communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred Good problem solving and clinical judgment skills Demonstrates ability to take initiative, be adaptable, and work well independently Is well organized, flexible, dependable, and punctual Works well with staff, individuals, and participants of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds Is computer literate (Microsoft Office, Excel) Functional Demands Environment Work Conditions Normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation Proximity to moving mechanical parts and housekeeping/cleaning agents Infectious Material Exposure Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues Physical Requirements Ability to lift, turn, move, position, and transport patients in and out of bed, chair, bathtub, wheelchair, lift, etc. Allows 10% sedentary tasks and approximately 90% physical tasks Ability to perform a minimal assist transfer (lift and control 50 pounds) Exerts up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly (medium physical demand) Organizational Expectations Ensures that resident’s/patient’s rights are adhered to Demonstrates professionalism and accountability Demonstrates a caring attitude consistent with Miami Jewish Empathicare toward residents, patients, family members, employees, and other facility guests Demonstrates excellent communication skills Ensures confidentiality and security of patients’ medical information Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication Speaks, reads, and writes English Acts calmly to meet unusual occurrences of the job Adheres to the organization’s mission, vision, and values Participates in departmental activities, meetings, and in‑services and follows established guidelines Maintains a safe working environment Benefits We offer competitive compensation, medical/dental/vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement savings plan for eligible full‑time and part‑time positions, free on‑campus parking, an onsite fitness center, and more.
