Experience: Minimum of 1 year inpatient psychiatric experience preferred. Will accept a mix of psychiatric and acute care pediatric experience or experience working with individuals with autism.

License: Maine CNA license required.

Certifications: BLS, MOAB (to be obtained on site).

Must-Have: Comfortable with redirection and de-escalation techniques.

Description: As soon as possible start needed. Interviews will be conducted with approval from management. This facility is a free-standing acute inpatient facility. All patients are medically cleared. It is uncommon to have lines, drains, tubes, etc. The unit has 50 beds for pediatric patients and commonly cares for adolescents and pediatric patients aged 5-18. Common diagnoses include autism, self-mutilation, self-harm, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, gender dysphoria, trauma and sexual trauma, and anger management issues. Patient ratios include 6 psych technicians during the day and 2 psych technicians at night. The role involves assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), conducting rounds every 7.5 minutes, acting as a one-on-one sitter, and participating in physical holds using the least restrictive measures. Responsibilities may include obtaining EKGs as needed. The ideal candidate will be punctual, demonstrate a good attitude, and be flexible. Support within the department is available from the Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, and House Administrator, who is accessible overnight and during weekends. Nurse Practitioners are on site until 4:00 PM and then available on call overnight. Psychiatrists conduct daily rounds and are on call from midnight to 6:00 AM. An Occupational Therapist is available from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, seven days a week. Security staff do not respond to patient escalations; instead, staff from all units, including technicians and nurses, respond to those situations. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner, along with paper documentation. Unit-specific equipment includes seclusion rooms and chair restraints. Employees may be required to float to different units if needed. Scheduling involves weekends every other weekend with holiday expectations to work in rotation. The schedule will include modified self-scheduling, with travelers signing up for preferred shifts, which will be reviewed for coverage. Travelers will be automatically assigned vacant shifts if they do not sign up during the designated time. Scrub color should be any solid color and professional. Unit culture emphasizes teamwork and open communication with management to address any issues.
