Associate Attorney

Job Description Join a well-established nonprofit legal aid organization serving communities in Northern New Jersey and build meaningful litigation experience while making a difference. This opportunity focuses on consumer advocacy matters and offers hands‑on client representation, regular courtroom appearances, mentorship, and a strong pathway to a permanent Staff Attorney role. Position Details 4-month full‑time engagement (35 hours per week) with strong potential to transition to permanent employment Hybrid work schedule upon permanent hire Positions based in Paterson and Jersey City Responsibilities Interview and advise clients Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents Conduct legal research Prepare matters for hearings Appear in court and advocate on behalf of clients This is an excellent opportunity for attorneys seeking substantive litigation experience in a supportive and collaborative environment. Qualifications Admitted to practice in New Jersey Strong writing and oral advocacy skills Interest in public interest law, consumer advocacy, or community‑based practice Prior legal services experience is helpful but not required. Training and mentorship are provided. Compensation This temporary engagement is paid on an hourly basis equivalent to approximately $70,000–$75,000 annually , depending on experience. Attorneys who transition into permanent roles move to the organization’s Staff Attorney salary scale beginning at $77,500 , with comprehensive benefits. Relevant experience will be recognized in accordance with the organization’s salary schedule.
