Maintenance Worker I/IIThe City of Goleta invites qualified applicants to apply for Maintenance Worker I/II to fill one (1) vacancy in the Public Works Department. The current vacancy is assigned to the Parks and Open Space Division. Placement may be at either the Maintenance Worker I or Maintenance Worker II level, depending on qualifications. This recruitment may also establish a list to fill future vacancies. Ideal candidates will be highly motivated, maintain a solid work ethic, provide excellent customer service, and have a passion for maintaining the City's parks and open space for the Goleta community and its visitors to enjoy. A valid CA driver's license and clean driving record are required. Candidates must be available to work occasional nights, weekends, and respond to emergency call-backs. Depending on the needs of the department and subject to certification, this position may be eligible for Bilingual Pay, currently at $65 per pay period. This recruitment will include an oral panel interview and practical examination. Typical job duties in this division may include performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance of parks and open spaces, such as irrigation repairs, vegetation trimming, playground equipment repairs, and the operation of specialized equipment.The Public Works Department is comprised of seven divisions include Administration, Transportation and Development Engineering, Capital Improvement Program, Parks & Open Space, Streets Maintenance, Street Lighting, and Environmental Services. For more detailed information, please review the job description of Maintenance Worker I and Maintenance Worker II.Participate in a variety of park maintenance duties including trimming shrubs, pulling weeds, mowing and edging lawns, raking recreation areas, watering plants and trees, and sweeping.Inspect park playground equipment; remove possible hazards to ensure safety.Pick up litter rom grounds and empty trash containers throughout assigned park areas.Patrol and inspect parks to ensure the safety of the public facilities; note potential safety hazards; review with supervisor for appropriate action.Assist in the installation of park improvements including picnic tables, barbecues, bleachers, trashcan holders, and related items.Inspect, maintain, and repair playground equipment.Participate in integrated pest management operations as needed.Assist in preparing the City for special projects and events.Clean and stock park bathrooms.Participate in setting forms, mixing, pouring, and finishing concrete.Participate in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: High school education or equivalent. Experience: Six months of experience assisting in street maintenance, construction, and/or grounds maintenance. Knowledge of: Basic maintenance methods and techniques. Operation and maintenance of tools and equipment used in repair and maintenance activities. Techniques and procedures in basic carpentry, metal, masonry, painting and mechanical work. Ability to: Operate power tools and make minor repairs to equipment. Perform minor maintenance activities related to area of assignment. Repair facilities and operate maintenance equipment. Understand and follow verbal and written directions; work safely and efficiently. Operate vehicles as well as general and specialized job-related equipment including hydraulic jackhammers and tampers. Perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.Possession of a valid Class "C" California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.BenefitsOptional and subject to Department Director approval. HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE: Subject to approval. Employees must work a minimum of two days in-person, allowing up to three days remote. 13 fixed holidays (at 8 hours each); one floating holiday (8 hours). Annual vacation leave accrual of 88 hours and up to 176 hours after 15 years of service with a maximum accrual of 352 hours. Sick leave accrual of 12 days (96 hours) per year with no maximum accrual. The City Flexible Benefit Plan provides an allowance for the payment of health, dental, and vision insurance premiums through the City's benefit program, in the following monthly amounts: $1,560 for "employee-only" plans, $1,620 for "employee-plus-one" plans, and $1,640 for "employee-plus-family" plans. Alternatively, participants may receive $1,033.34 for participation in a qualified plan elsewhere. Benefit level equivalent to 1x annual salary to a maximum of $200,000. Premium paid by the city. The city participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and does not participate in Social Security. New PERS members receive 2% at age 62, average of 3 years' final compensation benefit level and contribute 7.75% of their salary to pension costs. Classic members receive 2% at age 55, single-highest year benefit formula and pay 7.00% of their salary toward pension costs. Paid by City. Employee-paid deferred compensation plan is available. The city will match up to $25 per pay period. Employee-paid Flexible Spending Account Programs for medical and dependent care expenses are available. The city is a member of the Coastal Housing Partnership, which offers home loan assistance and rental reductions. The City of Goleta will pay the difference between any benefit the employee receives through state SDI or other City-offered group disability insurance plan and 100% of the employee's base salary (not to exceed ten weeks for pregnancy disability and not to exceed six weeks for parental bonding). Employees may be eligible to receive a per-diem benefit of $7.50 per day through participation in the City's Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program.
