Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1-2 years License: Must possess a current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance before arrival. Experience in titrating cardiac drips, managing and pulling venous sheaths, and central line management is required. Knowledge of tracheostomies, chest tubes, feeding tubes, BiPAP, wound care, and blood products is essential. Description: The PCU is a unit that manages patients with various critical conditions. Patient types include respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, sepsis, and post-operative care. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3-4. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who may take patient assignments. Phlebotomy and respiratory therapy teams are available on site. A hospitalist is on call 24/7. Charting is conducted using an EMR system. IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are used on the unit. Travelers may float to other units if necessary. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other week. Nurses will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next week, which is mandatory. Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved, but any full week must extend the contract. Blackout dates apply during major holidays. Holiday expectations require working 2 out of 3 major holidays. The unit culture is diverse and traveler-friendly. Scrub color is pewter.
