About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience License: Required state license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Management and placement of central venous lines. Foley catheter management. Tube feedings via nasogastric tube or percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. Management of arterial lines. Diabetes management. Drip titration for medications such as Levophed, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin. Description: This position requires working in a stepdown unit with a patient bed capacity of 12. The average patient ratio is 1 nurse to 3 patients. Patients include those with respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, diabetic ketoacidosis, and post-procedural care after cardiac catheterizations or aortograms/angiograms. Charge nurse will take patient assignments alongside support from a resource nurse, depending on staffing. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, as well as hospitalist services. The facility utilizes an electronic medical record system and Alaris IV pumps for patient care. Travelers may float to other units as necessary. Weekend rotation includes working every other weekend, and the schedule may vary between 4 days one week and 3 the next. Travelers are permitted to request one weekend of time off per contract, with up to 7 days allowed but must extend the contract for any full week. Major holidays require working 2 or 3 out of the significant holidays. Professionalism is mandatory; cell phone usage in patient care areas is prohibited, and personal items such as earbuds cannot be worn. Uniform colors are specified, with badges required to be worn visibly at all times.
