About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of PCU RN experience License: RN License Required Certifications: Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: EKG competency exam Description: The unit has 24-25 beds. There are three types of step-down units: cardiac stepdown, medical stepdown, and overflow. Travelers will be assigned to a home unit during Orientation. Experience with cardiac stepdown patients is necessary; otherwise, qualifications may only support medical stepdown. Patient types on the cardiac stepdown unit include post-CABG, lung surgeries, PCI, AICD placement, and TAVR. Medical stepdown patients may include those with respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, sepsis, and post-surgery cases. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:3-4. Travelers should have skills in titrating cardiac drips, insulin drips, and vasopressors. Additional skills needed include chest tube management, tracheostomy care, central line management, and wound care. Cardiac skills preferred include management of venous sheaths, TR Bands, and temporary pacemakers. Support on the unit includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, and a Resource Nurse. The charting system is Meditech Expanse, and IV pumps are Alaris. Weekend rotation requires working every other weekend. The schedule will consist of four days one week and three days the next week. Time off can be requested but is limited to one weekend per contract. Travelers will work two out of three major holidays during their contract. The culture on the unit is diverse, friendly, and includes multiple travelers.
