As well as Wyoming is one of seven states with no income tax.Human Resource Contact: Sabrina Ecker / View phone number on click.appcast.io / View email address on click.appcast.io FUNCTIONS:Safely operates and trains others to operate complex machinery in specialized maintenance applicationsLeads the performance of daily maintenance tasks as assigned by the Highway Maintenance Supervisor I; provides regular work direction to the crewAssists with tracking inventory, material usage, labor, and equipment mileage in the supervisor's absenceProvides advice and assistance on repair procedures needed for highways, equipment, and buildings, and makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding any unplanned maintenance activities that may be neededServes as technical resource for the crew; identifies and corrects any maintenance activity not performed according to state and federal safety and/or quality standards. Communicates project issues to the supervisor; proposes a new course of action to keep the project moving forward safelyProvides input to the supervisor regarding crew performance issues and successes observed in the fieldResponsible for general maintenance of highway-related facilities such as rest areas; this may include performing water and wastewater treatment according to EPA and DEQ requirementsOperates heavy equipment, including, but not limited to: single and tandem axle trucks equipped with an auger, aerial lift equipment, or equipped with plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from the roadway surfaceResponsible for the rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and traffic control devices; oversees on-the-road traffic control operations, including oversight of safety procedures and quality standardsAttends and completes all state and federal training required in order to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skillsUtilizes computers for agency practices, such as training and performance evaluations, and keeps up to date on technological advances with specialized equipmentQualificationsPREFERENCES:Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License.Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion in Defensive Driving.Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of highway maintenance operationsKnowledge of computers, basic office equipment, Gmail, and WYDOT databases/systemsKnowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standardsKnowledge of state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control proceduresKnowledge of equipment maintenance, basic mechanical diagnosis, and repair proceduresKnowledge of hazardous materials response proceduresKnowledge of federal and state requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipmentKnowledge of basic equipment operation for single and tandem-axle trucks, loaders, and tractors; knowledge of specialized heavy equipment used in maintenance activitiesKnowledge of safe work procedures, First Aid, and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activitiesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hire OR Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within twelve (12) months of hireNecessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Frequent use of manual and powered hand toolsDaily use of motor vehicles and heavy equipmentFrequent exposure to hazardous materialsAbility to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independentlyAbility to stand/sit and operate equipment for long periods of timeWork in adverse environmental conditions, which may include, but not be limited to rain, snow, heat, and hailAbility to walk long periods of time on even and uneven groundWorking around high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipmentNOTES:FLSA: Non-ExemptState housing may be availableWYDOT conducts motor vehicle record checks to verify that candidates possess a valid driver's license.Individuals in these positions must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or physical and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.Individuals in these positions must be available for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it. Failure to be available for emergency work without an acceptable excuse will be grounds for immediate disciplinary action and possible dismissal.Individuals holding these positions must report to the department shop within 30 minutes of receiving a call.Occasional overnight travel is required.Individuals in these positions may be asked to obtain water certifications if necessary.Individuals in these positions must have the ability to successfully complete the following training provided by WYDOT: Certification to operate specified equipment, Defensive Driving, First Aid/CPR certification, and Flagger certification.**Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonusTemporary employees accepting a full-time position.Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public.One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.Supplemental InformationClick here to view the State of Wyoming Classification and Pay Structure.
