Job Description UC Health is hiring a Part‑Time Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) for the 1st floor Cardiac/Neuro Med Surg unit for Day Shift at West Chester Hospital. The Health Unit Coordinator provides clerical support to the clinical team, transcribes physician orders, maintains patient medical records from admission to discharge, and serves as a communication link for patient, staff, and provider information. HUC education from college or vocational school preferred. 1–2 years equivalent customer service experience. Required Skills and Knowledge Takes initiative on tasks with minimal supervision; self‑starter. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic database management. Strong time‑management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Completes yearly mandatory unit‑specific, hospital and safety education. BLS (Basic Life Support); if not certified at hire, training provided during orientation. Responsibilities Accurate transcription of physician orders: review written orders, notify nurses of STAT orders, enter orders into the system, schedule diagnostic tests, ensure order completion and documentation changes. Clerical support: multitask during high‑activity periods, communicate effectively with providers, employ proper phone etiquette, assist with answering phones, handle patient call lights promptly, page appropriate personnel, notify providers of critical results, and maintain patient information in compliance with HIPAA. Chart responsibilities: assemble charts for new admissions, maintain charts throughout shift, add reports promptly, facilitate chart transfers to medical records, and manage chart disposals for discharged patients. Unit environment and accountability: perform courier duties, complete admission/transfer/discharge log boards, order and stock supplies, assist with patient charges, maintain a clean and organized environment, perform patient sitter duties as needed, notify nurses about equipment availability, assist with unit statistics and quality improvement data, and mentor new personnel or volunteers.
