Mechanical Assembler 2nd Shift
Job Description
This role focuses on mechanically assembling refrigeration cases and related sub-assemblies such as tanks, canopies, base frames, hardware kits, and plenums. You work from detailed work orders and "A" orders to build units to completion using a variety of hand and power tools, ensuring that all components are correctly identified, measured, and installed according to specifications.
Responsibilities

• Complete refrigeration cases and partial sub-assemblies, including tanks, canopies, base frames, hardware kits, plenums, and other assigned parts.
• Read and comprehend "A" orders and work orders to understand build requirements and assembly steps.
• Identify all parts used on the assigned product line and determine their correct placement on the product.
• Identify and properly use the power and hand tools required for the assigned product line.
• Perform a wide range of assembly functions using appropriate hand and power tools.
• Use work order information to identify parts and accurately match part descriptions.
• Apply material gauging and dimensioning information to ensure proper fit and alignment of components.
• Read and use rulers, tape measures, metal squares, and other measuring instruments to verify dimensions.
• Fasten parts together using bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, and other fasteners to create secure assemblies.
• Work at different workstations as production needs change, maintaining flexibility across the assembly line.
• Collaborate as a member of the assembly team to build units to full completion.
• Perform appropriate preventive maintenance on equipment and tooling to support safe and efficient operations.
• Push and pull cases weighing between approximately 200 and 800 pounds on a repetitive basis as part of the assembly process.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area while performing duties.
• Stand, walk, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and handle tools and materials throughout the workday to complete assembly tasks.

Essential Skills

• Mechanical assembly experience in a light industrial or production environment.
• Ability to read and comprehend "A" orders and detailed work orders.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how parts fit and function together.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to identify parts and part descriptions using work order and documentation information.
• Capability to use measuring instruments such as rulers, tape measures, and metal squares accurately.
• Experience working on an assembly line or in a similar production setting.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, including bending, twisting, and lifting from awkward positions or tight spaces.
• Physical ability to push and pull cases in excess of 200 to 800 pounds repetitively.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, frequently walk, and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally sit, stoop, and kneel.
• Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls while maintaining focus on quality and safety.
• Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical aspects related to assembly and build processes.

• Prior experience in general labor or light industrial roles supporting production or assembly.
• Experience in mechanical repair or troubleshooting of assembled units.
• Experience working across multiple workstations and adapting to changing production requirements.
• Comfort working as part of a collaborative assembly team focused on completing units to specification.
• Attention to detail in matching parts, fasteners, and measurements to documentation.
• Reliability and consistency in following preventive maintenance procedures for tools and equipment.

Work Environment
The role is based in a very clean production facility at Plant 2, one of three locations in the area. The work involves standing for most of the shift, frequent walking and reaching, and occasional sitting, stooping, and kneeling while handling parts and tools. You regularly use hand and power tools, measuring devices such as rulers and tape measures, and work at various stations along the assembly line depending on production needs. The environment supports teamwork and flexibility, with an emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and maintaining equipment through preventive maintenance. Dress is typical for a light industrial setting, with appropriate workwear and safety gear suited to an assembly and production environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $20.50/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
