Senior Network Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to take ownership of key areas of MongoDB's global network infrastructure. You'll design, deploy, and troubleshoot network and VPN solutions, including Palo Alto Prisma Access at global scale, partner with InfoSec to harden network security, and mentor engineers across the team. This role combines deep hands-on networking expertise with the judgment to prioritize and communicate risk and strategy to stakeholders.What You’ll DoOwn the design, deployment, and operation of MongoDB's global network infrastructure Cisco Meraki, including routers, switches, firewalls,access points and IOT sensorsLead the rollout and ongoing management of Palo Alto Prisma Access as MongoDB's SASE , in partnership with InfoSecAdminister and evolve MongoDB's network authentication stack, including RADIUS implementations (EAP-TLS, PAP, RadSec and Mac Authentication), ensuring secure and reliable network accessPartner with InfoSec to implement and continuously improve network security controls, including VLAN configuration, firewall rules, DNS, DHCP, and IDS/IPS solutionsDesign and deploy network infrastructure for new and existing global office sites, partnering with Real Estate, workplace, AV, and Physical Security teamsServe as a senior technical escalation point (L3) for complex network issues across the organizationBuild automation to reduce manual network operations work and improve reliability and observabilityAct as a technical advisor for MongoDB's relationships with ISPs, hardware, low voltage cabling and other network vendorsMentor engineers across the team and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and self-serviceResponsibilitiesEnsure MongoDB's global network infrastructure and VPN remain fault tolerant, reliable, secure, and scalable as the company growsReduce risk and technical debt across network, security and remote access solutionsCommunicate network strategy, risk, and incidents clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholdersUphold strong engineering practices across network documentation, automation, and change managementBalance long-term network architecture work with day-to-day operational supportAbility to use iterative designs to PoC and deploy new network solution based on company problemsMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience6+ years of experience in network or systems engineering, with a strong grasp of networking fundamentals (OSI model, routing, switching, IP subnetting, cabling, wireless)Proven experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting high availability network infrastructure at global scale, including routers, switches, firewalls, access points and IOT sensors in high-availability configurationsHands-on experience with network dashboards and platforms such as Cisco Meraki and HPE ArubaExperience implementing and managing VPN and secure access solutions such as Palo Alto Prisma Access, Cloudfare IPSEC L2TP and Cisco secure client / anyconnectExperience with network authentication technologies such as FoxPass, LDAP, and Okta (SAML)Solid understanding of enterprise network design and cloud networking best practices (High availability, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, IP subnetting, firewall rules)Experience partnering with InfoSec, Physical Security, and Workplace teams on cross-functional network initiativesScripting skills for network automation using infrastructure as codeExcellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to a wide range of audiencesExperience with network documentation such as rack elevation, patching matrices and network topologies at a layer 2 and layer 3 levelThere will be requirements from time to time to work across multiple time zones as required by the business, including travelPreferred QualificationsCCNA, CCNP, Meraki Solutions specialist, or equivalent networking certificationExperience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and hybrid network architecturesExperience mentoring other network or systems engineersFamiliarity with MDM and endpoint tools such as JAMF and Workspace ONE (AirWatch)Experience working directly with ISPs and external vendors to resolve complex connectivity issuesSuccess MeasuresIn 3 months, you will: Be fully onboarded with a thorough understanding of MongoDB's network infrastructure and policies, have completed a review of the existing environment, and be providing effective L3 supportIn 6 months, you will: Have led at least one medium-scale network or VPN project end to end, such as a Palo Alto Prisma Access rollout or office network upgrade, and implemented measurable network security improvementsIn 12 months, you will: Be recognized as a senior technical owner for MongoDB's global network, having led large-scale infrastructure projects and mentored other engineers on the teamLocation & Travel:This role is based in Palo Alto / San Francisco, CA, and candidates should be located within reasonable commuting distance of our Palo Alto and San Francisco officesThe team operates with a flexible work arrangement, with in-person collaboration typically occurring 1–2 times per monthThis role also Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package.
