Volunteer JV Women's Basketball Coach

Starting Date: Immediately Athletic Coach (Head Coach) Responsibilities Thorough knowledge of all Athletic Policies approved by the Catawba County Schools Board of Education and responsibility for implementing them with the sports program staff. Knowledge of existing school system, state, and conference regulations; consistent implementation and interpretation for staff. Understand the proper administrative line of command and refer all grievance requests through appropriate channels. Aware of all public, staff, and departmental meetings requiring attendance. Establish fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff. Design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure program awareness. Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth by promoting clinic attendance per local policy. Delegate duties, supervise implementation, and at season’s end analyze staff effectiveness and evaluate assistants. Maintain discipline, address grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation. Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling, transportation, and tournament and special sport event requirements. Assist in preparation for scheduled sport events or practices, adhere to facility times, and coordinate with maintenance and school employees. Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility. Provide safeguards for equipment, advise the Athletic Director, and recommend policy or procedural changes. Distribute training rules and sport-specific regulations to each participating athlete. Monitor student athletes’ grades and conduct. Attend all practices and games, providing guidance and safeguards for participants. Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies. Complete and submit proper paperwork for all disabling athletic injuries to the athletic office within 24 hours. Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians. Determine discipline, delineate due‑process procedures, and contact parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible. Assist athletes in college or advanced educational selection. Participate in budgeting with the Athletic Director, establish requirements for the next season, and recommend equipment specifications while operating within budget appropriations. Accountable for equipment and/or collection of fees for lost or unreturned items; issue, store, recondition equipment and submit annual inventory and current records. Mark and identify all equipment before issuing or storing. Monitor equipment rooms and coaches’ offices, authorizing entry and requisition. Permit athletes to remain only in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times. Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, ensuring general cleanliness and maintenance of sport equipment. Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty. Instill respect for equipment and school property, organize pre‑season meetings with parents, coaches, players, and guests. Promote the sport within the school by recruiting athletes not involved in other sports and external outreach via news media and community programs. Ensure quality, effectiveness, and validity of any oral or written release to local media. Maintain good public relations with news media, the Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. Present information to media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results. Perform other duties as assigned by the school Principal in accordance with Catawba County Board of Education policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and statutes. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Administrative and organizational skills. Thorough knowledge of Catawba County Schools athletic policy and procedure and North Carolina Administrative Code and statutes. Effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the community. Minimum Training and Experience Meet requirements established by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the Catawba County Board of Education, and school administration. Teacher license and employment as a teacher by the Catawba County Board of Education strongly preferred.
