Test Equipment Sustainment Engineer

Job Overview The Test Equipment Sustainment Engineer will support the maintenance and upgrade of test equipment used in aviation systems such as the F-35 LightningII. The role is based on site in Torrance, CA, reports to the Manager, Site TES Engineering, and operates on a 9/80 work schedule. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and complete activities in support of Test Equipment Sustainment at Moog Military Aircraft Group Torrance Operations, ensuring continued operation of deployed test equipment throughout the product life cycle. Collaborate with Assembly and Test Operations customers and a team of sustainment engineers and technicians on all aspects of test system sustainment, covering mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, electrical, software, and power distribution components. Work with Test Systems Design and Project/NPI teams on maintenance, upgrade and sustainment work packages for existing and proposed test equipment. Use the Test Equipment Maintenance Management System (PiranaAVMS) to log, track and document customer work requests, preventive maintenance activities and other sustainment tasks. Maintain the configuration of operational test equipment, including generation, update and formal release of test equipment documentation during sustainment activities. Provide technical review for Test Equipment and Test Software drawings and documentation in accordance with Moog Processes and Procedures. Act as a customer‑focused liaison, providing timely updates on sustainment activities to the Site Manager and stakeholders. Support procurement of sub‑assemblies, services, spares and consumables to sustain test equipment. Lead obsolescence management activities, identifying replacement opportunities for capital assets and coordinating with Design and Project/NPI functions to complete obsolescence work packages. Assist the Test Equipment Manager in resolving Corrective Actions, Significant Issues or Non‑Conformances related to test equipment systems, components or processes. Support root‑cause investigations of all aspects of test equipment systems and components as required. Ensure all Health & Safety practices are followed and document any issues arising during work activities. Create or review work‑related Risk Assessments and adhere to them. Lead and support internal and external quality audits for all deployed test equipment systems. Comply with quality procedures relevant to tasks undertaken. Participate in lean activities to continuously improve function and site operations. Document Standard Operating Procedures for LOTO on Test Equipment and act as an authorized competent party onsite to perform LOTO activities. Core Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Project Management, Aeronautical, Physics). Minimum five years’ experience in a relevant engineering sector (Aerospace, Automotive, Test Equipment). Proficiency in maintenance and support of equipment solutions for multi‑axis, closed‑loop, servo‑hydraulic and electromechanical systems. Experience with one or more of the following: JIRA, Pirana, NX or LabVIEW is advantageous. Proficient use of Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio. Must be able to obtain Security Clearances as required. Access to U.S. export‑controlled information is required. Preferred Experience Interdisciplinary engineering experience (Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic and Systems). Experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing industry strongly preferred. Proactive problem‑solving and resolution skills with mature judgment. Understanding of cultures and local norms associated with work in foreign locations. Ability to navigate a matrixed organization with possible conflicting demands. Proven ability to collaborate closely with customers while positively representing the company under challenging situations.
