Job Overview

The Client is seeking a detail-oriented QA Analyst with 1–3 years of experience in quality assurance within an analytical, environmental, chemical, or related laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with laboratory data validation, system testing, Python programming, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), preferably STARLIMS.

The QA Analyst will support laboratory quality assurance activities, validate analytical data, review chemistry data packages, and improve existing Python code and data operations to enhance efficiency and integration with laboratory information systems. The candidate will collaborate with chemists, programmers, and IT teams to ensure data accuracy, regulatory compliance, and adherence to established laboratory quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Revise, maintain, and improve existing Python code and data operations to enhance efficiency and integration with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), particularly STARLIMS.
• Collaborate with chemists, developers, and IT teams to support LIMS implementation, testing, validation, and ongoing improvements.
• Review new and modified programs, technical specifications, and documentation to ensure they meet user requirements and established quality standards.
• Conduct system testing, identify defects, document findings, and recommend corrective actions and program improvements.
• Review chemistry data packages for compliance with applicable EPA, FDA, Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and state environmental reporting requirements.
• Evaluate analytical chemistry procedures for deviations from published test methods and established laboratory standards.
• Review analytical results for accuracy, completeness, reproducibility, and compliance with applicable quality assurance requirements.
• Validate Excel spreadsheets used for analytical calculations to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
• Maintain traceability and integrity of laboratory data through validated electronic records, audit trails, and consistent documentation practices.
• Review system outputs and electronic audit trails to identify discrepancies and verify data accuracy.
• Support the review of chemical inventory systems and recommend improvements to laboratory operations.
• Review annual competency assessments for approximately 25 chemists across approximately 60 analytical methods.
• Apply an understanding of EPA chemistry test methods, accuracy, and reproducibility data to support the validation of laboratory test results.
• Identify gaps between established quality standards and user applications and recommend appropriate modifications.

Required Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in quality assurance within an analytical, environmental, chemical, or related laboratory environment.
• Proficiency in Python programming, including the ability to revise, maintain, or improve existing code.
• Ability to communicate effectively with chemists, software developers, and IT teams.
• Experience collaborating with IT or development teams on LIMS implementation, testing, or validation.
• Experience conducting system testing, identifying defects, documenting issues, and recommending improvements.
• Experience reviewing analytical data packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory or laboratory quality standards.
• Knowledge of laboratory data integrity, traceability, electronic records, and documentation practices.
• Ability to review system outputs, validate data, and identify deviations from established standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with STARLIMS or another Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Familiarity with EPA, FDA, and state environmental laboratory requirements.
• Knowledge of analytical chemistry testing methods, laboratory quality assurance, and method validation.
• Experience validating Excel spreadsheets used for laboratory calculations.
• Familiarity with laboratory chemical inventory management systems.
• Experience reviewing chemist competency assessments and laboratory standard operating procedures.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate combines laboratory quality assurance knowledge with Python programming and system validation skills. The candidate should be comfortable working with both laboratory personnel and technical teams, reviewing detailed chemistry data packages, identifying discrepancies, and recommending improvements to laboratory systems and processes.
