For more information about Oakland County benefits and employee perks, visit General Summary Location: Pontiac, MI Compensation: $45,511 - $60,976 annually The Auxiliary Health Clerk supports the Children’s Village staff and residents by providing administrative and medical assisting services. The role involves para‑professional duties, routine services for county health clinics, outreach, conference support, and other locations as assigned. What You’ll Do Assist professional and para‑professional staff with technical health screening tasks. Perform phlebotomy and minor laboratory tests at clinics or conference sites. Take, interpret, and report physical measurements and findings; reschedule missed clinic appointments. Draft and distribute health education and public health information materials, and maintain associated records. Schedule orientation and staff development programs and materials. Attend staff/supervisory group meetings and in‑service education programs. Assist with routine licensing and regulatory functions, program planning, and evaluation activities; prepare reports following established guidelines. Use countywide and/or department software to complete assignments. Minimum Qualifications Valid Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA). Possess at least an associate’s degree or equivalent with coursework in Journalism, English, Psychology, Sociology, Early Childhood Education, or related areas; OR have Merit System status in any classification and meet the following: Completed at least one year of college coursework in the specified fields. Have two years of full‑time work experience in the Oakland County Health & Human Services Department performing or assisting in para‑professional health assignments. Additional Desirable Qualifications Previous work experience with the general public as a volunteer or employee. Ongoing college study toward a degree in Public Health, Psychology, Nursing, Sociology, Social Work, or related areas. Reasonable knowledge of social needs, habits, and behavior characteristics. Ability to counsel, instruct, and control people. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and prepare routine reports. Ability to cope with challenging situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with department policies. Effective communication skills and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and Internet software. Special Requirements Employees must submit to required immunizations, tuberculin skin test or chest X‑ray once a year at county expense. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist professional public health employees across Oakland County. Provide information on available services and procedures to visitors at the Health Division. Conduct routine laboratory tests and screening tests; perform selected physical measurements. Provide prior authorization screening for services. Follow up on client services and ensure referred children receive medical attention. Organize health education materials and audio‑visual aids. Participate in agency task forces when appropriate. Attend staff and supervisory group meetings; attend public health nursing in‑service education. Make appointments, code visits, separate and organize reports, maintain files and records, inventory supplies, and perform related duties. Assist with licensing and regulatory procedures. Monitor local agency management information system reports and contract compliance. Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of reports and data at local and central levels. Provide referrals and information such as phone numbers and agency locations. Utilize countywide or department software to complete assignments. Essential Mental & Physical Requirements Ability to communicate accurately, operate typical office and medical equipment, and understand the duties described above. Working Conditions Work performed in a typical office/medical laboratory setting; may involve driving or being a passenger in an automobile.
