Paraeducator - 1:1 (Specialized Instruction) - Temporary Position Starting Date: Sep 14, 2026 Position Summary Under supervision, perform a variety of instructional activities; assist in promoting student learning; perform routine and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and complete other related work as required within a collaborative team. Preferred Education and Experience One year of paid or volunteer experience working with multi‑age groups of children. Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade plus training or coursework in child growth and development, instructional technology, or a closely related field. Special Requirements Meet ESSA requirements: hold AA or higher degree, or have 72 college credits, or passed OSPI approved test, or completed apprenticeship. First Aid, CPR and AED certification. CPI certification for specified positions. Completion of all state required paraeducator certifications. Successful Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint clearance. I‑9 employment eligibility compliance. HIV/HBV training within 60 days of hire (District provided). Human Resources new‑hire training within 60 days of hire (District provided). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics. Student behavior management strategies (e.g., PBIS, trauma‑informed practices). Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Basic arithmetic concepts. Routine record management and retrieval systems. Empathetic, patient attitude toward students. Effective oral and written communication. Operates educational equipment and technology. Follows written instructions. Maintains confidentiality of student and staff information. Flexibility with schedule. Physical ability to perform duties (lifting, standing, etc.). Position Responsibilities Assist instructional personnel with presentation and delivery of instructional programs. Work with students with a wide range of disabilities. Provide tutoring to individual students and small groups. Monitor and assist students in drill, practice, study activities per program or IEP. Direct students to safe learning activities and model appropriate social behaviors. Assist with remediation of learning problems. Apply positive behavior strategies and collaborate on behavior plans. Prepare instructional materials and learning aids. Provide supports such as catheterization, toileting, diapering, dressing, feeding. Perform routine first aid. Maintain records, including confidential student records. Assist students with operating instructional media and technology. Adapt to new students and IEP goals. Administer and score tests. Maintain an orderly and positive learning environment. De‑escalate students per district protocol. Assist transitions on and off school bus. Help students organize items. Monitor student safety at recess. Adhere to federal and state laws, district regulations, policies. Mandatory reporting of incidents. Adopt employment provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. Maintain strict confidentiality. Maintain punctual attendance. Physical/Mental Requirements Use of computer and telephone for extended periods. Manual dexterity, visual acuity, ability to communicate verbally. Exert 10–20 lb force frequently; lift, carry, push, pull objects. Sit, stand, run or walk for extended periods. Operate in varied weather conditions; possible exposure to hot, cold, humid, windy. Assist in lifting students up to 150 lbs. Run after eloping students. Employment Conditions Temporary 20‑day position. Hourly rate $28.53–$33.13 (2025‑26). Schedule 6.5 hours daily, 8:40 – 15:40. Pay rates pending bargaining agreement for 2026‑27.
