Job Description

The Cleanroom Technician supports daily production and packaging activities in a regulated manufacturing environment, following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all related standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role focuses on meeting production goals, maintaining high quality standards, and ensuring accurate documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP). The technician operates within a cleanroom setting, works closely with team leaders and supervisors, and uses computerized systems to manage materials and production records.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily production and packaging activities in accordance with GMP and all applicable SOPs.
• Consistently work toward assigned production goals and support unscheduled peaks in workload to ensure timely product release and prevent back orders.
• Collaborate with team leaders and supervisors to understand critical raw materials, in-process procedures, and product specifications.
• Participate in identifying and implementing corrective actions for technical problems related to raw materials and finished products.
• Perform in-process quality checks on sub-assemblies and finished products to ensure they meet specifications.
• Identify and report line issues and other production problems promptly to team leaders or supervisors, and support required corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and legible records and documentation in accordance with GDP and all related SOPs.
• Use a computerized Materials Resource Planning (MRP) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) inventory system to report lot-controlled ingredients on batch records.
• Perform line clearances and provide accurate examples of clearance activities to demonstrate understanding of the process.
• Operate production machinery and equipment safely and efficiently according to established procedures.
• Conduct visual and functional inspections of products and packaging to support quality assurance.
• Follow established procedures for closing work orders and updating production and inventory records.
• Apply knowledge of manufacturing terminology, including SOP, GDP, GMP, GLP, FDA, and ISO, in daily activities.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and leadership regarding production status, issues, and improvement opportunities.
• Demonstrate reliability by consistently reporting to work as scheduled and supporting overtime needs to prevent production bottlenecks.

Essential Skills

• At least four years of previous assembly or packaging experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience in a regulated medical device manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of what SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) means in a manufacturing environment and how to follow SOPs to achieve production and quality goals.
• Ability to clearly explain how SOPs were used in prior roles and provide detailed examples of compliance.
• Strong understanding of GDP (Good Documentation Practices) and the ability to explain how GDP was followed in previous positions.
• Experience performing line clearances and the ability to describe accurate examples of line clearance activities.
• Hands-on experience with machine operation in a production environment.
• Experience in quality assurance, including inspection and verification of products and packaging.
• Experience with packaging and inspection processes in a manufacturing setting.
• Basic computer operation skills and comfort working with computerized systems.
• Working knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
• Previous experience with, or the ability to quickly comprehend, coagulation-based manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with GDP, GMP, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), FDA, and ISO requirements.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP, or similar platforms.
• Ability to close work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Strong reliability and attendance, recognizing the impact of one person’s absence on production flow.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in coagulation-based manufacturing processes is a plus.
• Knowledge of qualification and validation trials is advantageous.
• Familiarity with manufacturing acronyms and terminology, demonstrating comfort with manufacturing “lingo.”
• Experience working with MRP systems to manage lot-controlled materials and batch records.
• Ability to describe machines operated and computer systems used in prior roles, including any experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
• Comfort working in a regulated environment governed by FDA and ISO standards.
• Ability to adapt to overtime requirements, including occasional Saturday work, based on production needs.
• Strong communication skills to explain processes, documentation practices, and equipment experience during interviews and on the job.

Work Environment

This role is based in a cleanroom manufacturing environment with two openings on first shift, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The work area can be loud, and the company provides ear protection and ear plugs as needed. Headphones are not permitted on the manufacturing floor, and personal cell phone use is restricted while on the production line. The dress code requires pants; leggings are not allowed. No makeup or lipstick may be worn in the cleanroom. If necklaces are worn, they must be tucked into the shirt. Employees who wear glasses must use side shields on their eyewear to meet safety requirements. The role involves working around production machinery, performing line clearances, and using computers and ERP/MRP systems for documentation and inventory control. Overtime is not required immediately but may be introduced after approximately six weeks of training. Some overtime will be voluntary and some mandatory, with one to two weeks’ notice provided. Flexibility to work overtime, including occasional Saturdays, is important, as reliability and consistent presence are critical to preventing bottlenecks in the production process.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
