Job Title: Electrical Foreman Job Description

The Electrical Foreman supervises and coordinates all electrical installation activities on a school construction and renovation project. This role leads electricians and apprentices, ensures that all work follows project plans and specifications, and maintains schedules while meeting applicable codes, safety standards, and quality expectations. The Electrical Foreman works closely with other trades and project stakeholders to deliver reliable electrical systems for classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and other school facilities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the daily activities of electricians, helpers, apprentices, and subcontractors on the jobsite.
• Review electrical drawings, specifications, and project schedules to plan and sequence electrical installations effectively.
• Coordinate electrical work with general contractors, project managers, and other trades to maintain smooth project progress.
• Install, oversee, and inspect electrical systems including lighting systems, power distribution, fire alarm systems, data and communication cabling, and emergency and backup power systems.
• Lead and participate in jobsite safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company safety policies at all times.
• Ensure all electrical work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local regulations, and school district requirements.
• Monitor productivity, manpower allocation, and material usage to keep the project on schedule and within scope.
• Prepare daily reports, progress updates, and short-term work plans to document activities and support project management.
• Perform quality control inspections on electrical installations and promptly resolve any issues or deficiencies.
• Assist with project commissioning, including testing, troubleshooting, and turnover activities for all electrical systems.
• Coordinate electrical installations in classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and exterior school areas.
• Install and oversee fire alarm, security, and access control systems in both new and existing school facilities.
• Plan and coordinate shutdowns and tie-ins to existing school electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient transitions.
• Ensure electrical work in occupied school facilities is completed with minimal disruption to ongoing school operations.
• Perform hands-on tasks such as conduit bending, running and installing conduit, pulling wire, wiring devices and equipment, and troubleshooting electrical and low voltage systems as needed.

Essential Skills

• Journeyman Electrician License preferred, in accordance with state and local regulations.
• 5+ years of commercial electrical experience, including supervisory or foreman-level responsibilities.
• Experience working on educational, institutional, or commercial construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical systems, and standard construction practices.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to direct and mentor electricians, apprentices, and helpers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with project teams and documenting work.
• Solid organizational skills to manage manpower, materials, schedules, and documentation.
• Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods on active construction sites.
• Ability to work safely in varying weather conditions and in active construction environments.
• Ability to lift and carry electrical materials, tools, and equipment as required for installation and maintenance work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with conduit bending, including bending and running various types of conduit.
• Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting lighting systems, power distribution, and electrical wiring.
• Experience with low voltage systems such as data, communication cabling, fire alarm, security, and access control.
• Demonstrated ability to perform detailed troubleshooting and problem-solving on electrical systems.
• Construction field experience involving installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Familiarity with pulling wire, routing circuits, and terminating electrical and low voltage connections.
• OSHA-related training and certifications, including OSHA and Site Safety Training (SST), or the ability to obtain them.
• Comfort working in both new construction and renovation environments, including occupied school facilities.

Work Environment

The role is based on active school construction and renovation sites, including classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and exterior areas. You work primarily on commercial-grade electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, low voltage, security, access control, and emergency power systems. The position involves standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. You will regularly handle electrical materials, conduit, wiring, and tools, and operate within a safety-focused environment that follows OSHA and site-specific safety protocols. Work hours typically align with standard construction schedules, with occasional coordination of shutdowns and tie-ins outside normal hours to minimize disruption to school operations. Attire is appropriate for a construction environment, including required personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, work boots, and other site-specific safety gear.

This is a Contract position based out of Brooklyn, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
