Job Overview This role performs therapeutic procedures such as wound care, crutch and gait training and instructs patients on exercise. You assist the physician with evaluation, documentation, treatment, education, and care coordination for patients in a clinic setting. You assist with surgery coordination, positioning, draping, and intraoperative patient care for surgeons. You also conduct research and quality improvement projects, and schedule appointments for diagnostic examinations and physical therapy based on physician orders. Key Responsibilities Assist physicians with research and quality improvement projects. Educate patients regarding treatment plans, pathophysiology, anatomy, and clinical decision making. Gather patients’ medical background and history, perform problem‑focused clinical examinations, document findings and treatment plans, and place orders in the electronic medical record under written order guidelines. Perform wound care, crutch and gait training, casting, splinting, or bracing, and instruct patients on exercise programs. Assist physicians in the clinic and operative setting, working independently or under direct supervision. Adapt communication style to the patient population, respecting privacy and requesting permissions appropriately. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health (required). Preferred Education : Master’s Degree in Allied Health or Education. Work Experience : At least 3 years in a healthcare office in a clinical or related medical area, including evaluating and assessing patient injury. Certifications (required) : Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC), Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, Board of Certified Athletic Trainers Certification (BOCATC). Preferred Certifications : Completion of SMA residency or equivalent program, state license in the state of practice. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication, with follow‑up skills. Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork ability. Professional interaction with patients, clinic staff, physicians, and departments. Ability to multi‑task with high attention to detail and bring tasks to completion. Comfortable communicating with patients. Physical & Environmental Demands Heavy work may require exerting 10 to 100 pounds of force occasionally or frequently. Duties require walking, standing, or sitting for significant periods and may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
