Account Specialist

Preferred Location: 200 S 6th St, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55402 Pay Rate: 20.88/hr on w2 WORKING HOURS: 40 hours/ day shift/ 7:30-4:00 Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for reviewing and resolving exception items within our system of record, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks in alignment with departmental performance standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a high level of independent judgment, and the ability to communicate effectively across teams. This position is best suited for someone who is highly organized, follows through on tasks, is comfortable with repetitive processes, and enjoys investigating issues through to resolution. Please note that this role differs significantly from traditional Accounts Payable positions and focuses heavily on research, reconciliation, and exception management. Key Responsibilities Exception Processing & Research Review and process exception items within the system of record, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and within established performance standards. Conduct detailed research to investigate and resolve complex exception items. Perform rotational assignments related to exception management and issue resolution. Analyze discrepancies and apply appropriate corrections to maintain data accuracy and integrity. Escalate unresolved issues when necessary while maintaining ownership through resolution. Balance and reconcile assigned accounts while meeting departmental productivity and quality expectations. Process, reconcile, and maintain various accounting records and transactions. Verify the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data and transactions. Post and validate accounting information within designated systems. Support the preparation of routine financial reports, analyses, and account reviews. Problem Solving & Decision Making Exercise strong independent judgment when evaluating and resolving issues. Troubleshoot and resolve challenges independently before seeking assistance from leadership. Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements when appropriate. Maintain a solution-oriented mindset while managing multiple priorities. Communicate professionally and effectively with internal stakeholders and business partners. Respond to inquiries and provide timely updates regarding exception resolution activities. Collaborate with team members and business partners to ensure operational efficiency. Participate in training and knowledge-sharing activities within the team. Required Qualifications Previous experience in accounting, finance operations, reconciliation, transaction processing, or a related field. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities. Ability to manage repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy and productivity. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision. Experience researching and resolving discrepancies. High level of accountability and follow-through. Technical Skills Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel. Proficiency with Microsoft OneNote. Experience working with financial systems, accounting platforms, or systems of record. Comfortable learning and navigating multiple technology platforms. Join a collaborative team of 10 professionals. Work closely with team members during onboarding and training.
