Music Therapist (MT-BC) - Part-Time / Independent Contractor

Inspire Academy of Music and Arts is an established music school in Pleasanton, California, offering private and group instruction in piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, and guitar. We are expanding our offerings and exploring the development of a dedicated music therapy program for children and families in our community. We are looking for a qualified Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) who is interested in helping us develop this program. We are looking for a qualified Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) who is interested in helping us develop this program. Position Overview This is an opportunity for a motivated music therapist to build and grow a music therapy practice within an established music academy . We are open to starting with a small number of hours per week and expanding as the program develops. The position may be a good fit for an MT-BC who already has another position and is interested in private practice, additional part-time work, or developing a new client base. The therapist will have professional studio space at our academy, while Inspire Academy will support the program through scheduling, administrative assistance, and community outreach. Responsibilities Provide individual and/or small-group music therapy sessions Conduct appropriate assessments and develop individualized treatment goals Design and implement music therapy interventions based on each client’s needs Work primarily with children and adolescents Maintain appropriate clinical documentation and professional standards Communicate professionally with parents/guardians and, when appropriate, other professionals involved in a client’s care Help identify opportunities to develop and expand the music therapy program at Inspire Academy Maintain a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for clients Qualifications MT-BC (Music Therapist – Board Certified) certification required Bachelor’s or master’s degree in music therapy from an approved program Clinical experience working with children is strongly preferred Experience with developmental disabilities, autism, special education, or other diverse populations is a plus Strong musical skills and the ability to use a variety of instruments and musical approaches Warm, patient, and professional approach to working with children and families Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work independently and take initiative in developing a new program Schedule Part-time, flexible schedule Initially approximately 3–8 hours per week , with the opportunity to grow Afternoon/evening and/or weekend availability preferred Schedule will be developed based on therapist availability and client demand Compensation Competitive per-session compensation, based on experience, qualifications, and session type.
