In this role, you'll lead the grocery team, drive sales and profitability, oversee food safety compliance, manage schedules and employee development, and help create the kind of positive, customer-focused culture that makes Hy-Vee exceptional.If you are an experienced retail leader who takes pride in developing people, delivering results, and serving your community, we'd love to have you on our team.What You'll DoAssist the Store Manager in overseeing all store operations and act on issues in the manager's absenceMaintain a positive attitude and create an atmosphere of friendliness, teamwork, and accountability throughout the storeProvide prompt, friendly customer service and set a strong example for all grocery employeesEnsure food safety guidelines are followed and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local health and food safety regulations; provide food safety training for all store employeesCoordinate all product recall events and take corrective action as necessaryForecast, review, and may write the store labor schedule within the Store Director's guidelinesRecruit, interview, select, orient, and train new employees; handle employee issues and coordinate disciplinary procedures when necessaryCoordinate and assist in the performance evaluation process and review all employees at least annuallyWork with department heads and designated personnel on schedules, labor, product purchasing, and merchandising to meet departmental goalsMonitor expenses and recommend cost reduction programsCoordinate physical inventory for the store, verify accuracy, and prepare the P&L as requested by the Store DirectorDetermine location of ad and promotional displays and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer and store demandsMeet with sales representatives to determine new items, special purchases, pricing, and merchandisingOversee building and grounds maintenance and all store sanitation to meet the Store Director's guidelinesOversee cash accountability, accounting procedures, and audits to ensure compliance and investigate potential issuesAttend company meetings as requested and disseminate information to store-level employeesParticipate in companywide events, special store events, and community activities as directedHandle confidential information including employee salaries and files, and sales and profit data with discretionUse and understand all hardware and software technology in the storeAdhere to all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines and report to work when scheduledYour SkillsUse logical and scientific thinking to solve complex problems involving abstract and concrete variablesPerform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations accuratelyReport, write, or edit materials for publication; prepare and deliver presentations; interview, counsel, and advise people; and evaluate technical dataLead and develop a team while building a collaborative, customer-focused store cultureCommunicate effectively and professionally with customers, employees, vendors, and regulatory agenciesReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness HomeDirect Reports: Grocery EmployeesEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent experience requiredOne or more years of retail management experience requiredPhysical RequirementsFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be active throughout the store and surrounding areas. You will have exposure to dust, noise, and temperature extremes, with possible equipment movement hazards and occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents.
