E&C Engineer

Job Title

Responsible for the design, modeling, development and testing of a machine, structure or system. Develops functional requirements. Understands and applies standard engineering principles. Creates simulations and prototypes to evaluate preliminary designs and test how a machine, structure or system operates. Designs and tests components, and integrates components to produce final product. Monitors quality of products and controls the efficiency of processes. Evaluates a design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Investigates root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements.

Project Overview, deliverables (what is this person responsible for): Performs point-to-point testing for distribution field devices (e.g., 3 closures, cap racks, sectionalizing cabinets), and distribution substation equipment in Texas. Includes logistical prep, scheduling with crews, and working in a SIP-controlled environment.

A typical day includes logistical setup for device testing, collaboration with internal teams, executing point-to-point testing, tracking and reporting results using Excel or PowerApps.

Work environment / team culture: Hybrid; collaborative during prep and logistics; individual contributor during actual testing. Work occurs primarily in a Control Center environment.

Potential risks or safety considerations: Minimal. Primarily a desk job in a secure environment. Occasional field visits for perspective, but not high-risk.

Work hours/shift: Standard 40-hour work week, hybrid model. Occasional work-from-home when testing isn't scheduled. No current overtime planned, but may change.

Top 3-5 skills and qualifications: Experience with electric distribution systems; Familiarity with Excel and PowerApps; Ability to coordinate and report on testing progress; Team collaboration; Communication and logistical coordination.

Non-technical skills: Team player; Adaptable to shifting priorities; Strong communication and reporting skills.

Ideal candidate background and how many years required: 2–5 years, ideally from utility or telecom sectors with testing experience.

Preferred or "nice to have" skills: SCADA experience; Communications troubleshooting knowledge.

Location of the contract assignment: Hybrid (Lubbock, TX); onsite Mon&Fri expected, remote possible when testing not active. Parking availability not discussed.
