Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,480 per month (Internal employees may be placed at a salary higher than the anticipated range as required by the collective bargaining agreement.)


Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,480 - $5,069 per month

• This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
• Area of consideration is limited to on-campus, state funded employees only.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary


Under general supervision, the Shipping & Receiving Assistant performs work involving the receipt, checking, storage, inventory, issue, and delivery of materials, equipment, and supplies; uses powered or non-powered materials handling equipment and delivery trucks; and prepares and/or files forms associated with receipt, purchasing, and delivery of goods. This role emphasizes managing a large, high-volume inventory, with a focus on meticulous documentation, superior customer service, and strong technical skills.

Key Qualifications

• Working knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used in receiving, storing, packing, and shipping materials and supplies.
• General knowledge of methods of taking inventories and maintaining inventory records.
• Skill/Ability to:
  • Quickly review information for accuracy and completeness, including matching names and numbers.
  • Maintain simple records and make simple reports.
  • Read and write at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Make arithmetic computations.
  • Operate powered materials handling equipment.
  • Apply safe methods of moving heavy supplies and equipment.
  • Perform manual labor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and promote a positive, service oriented, collegial work environment with a variety of individuals.
  • Effectively organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to use a computer to track and process information and transactions.

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to two years of work experience in a storeroom or warehouse involving the receipt, storage, and issuance of a variety of supplies, material, and equipment and a high school diploma.
• Experience in the operation of forklift, trucks or similar power-operated materials handling equipment.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
    • Ability to work with a computer database.
