Summary The 1st Grade Teacher will communicate knowledge and skills to students in an engaging and effective manner, using a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues on planning, professional development, curriculum design, and classroom instruction, while administering assessments and using data to guide instruction. Major Responsibilities Teach reading, language arts, mathematics, and science using the district curriculum and appropriate learning activities. Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times. Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities, employing diverse instructional techniques and media. Create a learning environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests. Guide learning toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects. Implement BRCPS’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives. Assess student achievement regularly and provide required progress reports. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations. Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required or requested. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, evaluating their performance with department heads. Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts. Work under general supervision of the Upper School Director or other designated administrator. Maintain and improve professional competence. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Morning Duty: Supervising hallways and classrooms. Afternoon Duty: Supervising the dismissal process. Perform additional duties as assigned without additional compensation. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students. Experience working in an urban setting (preferred). Experience working with diverse student populations (preferred). Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution. Required License(s)/MTELs DESE License: PreK‑2 and SEI Endorsement. Or passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), including a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and the relevant subject‑matter knowledge test(s).
