Job Summary Please join our dedicated team of Emergency Medicine Physicians at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and East Hampton Emergency Department, a member of the Stony Brook Medicine Health System, located in Easthampton, New York. As part of this integrated academic health system, Physicians at East Hampton contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The role includes providing comprehensive care for observation and inpatient populations while in the hospital, participating in the education of residents and medical students, and supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of care across the health system. Responsibilities Daily rounds on patient census. Presence at change of shift for sign out is essential. Admit patients to the hospital from the Stony Brook Southampton and Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Departments and other locations within the organization. Obtain accurate medical histories, perform physical examinations, make diagnoses, develop treatment plans, and order appropriate standard laboratory and diagnostic procedures as necessary. Collaborate with consulting medical providers. Accurately and timely document patient symptoms and clinical findings in the Electronic Medical Record as a progress note daily while the patient is on observation or an inpatient. Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patients’ plan of care. Follow established evidence-based practices and ensure good quality patient care. Provide patient education about underlying medical conditions, self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, and tailor instructions to patients’ individual circumstances. Instruct and counsel patients regarding therapeutic regimens, promoting wellness and health maintenance. Oversee and mentor fellows and medical residents on the medical teams. Responsible for conduct and patient interaction of shadowing medical students, physician extenders and nursing interns. Compensation $320,000 - 350,000 for 24 weeks of day shifts annually. Opportunity to earn additional compensation if the provider covers night shifts within the 24 weeks. Per diem rates are also available for coverage provided outside of contracted weeks. Physical Demands May spend a great deal of the professional day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. Ability to lift 20 pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring patients or objects may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as assisting with weights of more than 100 pounds. Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend or twist the body, as well as visual acuity. Required Qualifications MD or DO graduate. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine. NYS Licensure. Preferred Qualifications Board Certified Hospitalist preferred. Active DEA registration. 2+ years of experience practicing medicine in a hospital setting preferred. Excellent bedside manner. Willingness to live within 35 miles of hospital. Ability to stand for long periods of time and have limited periods of rest. Day shifts are from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Tuesday through Monday.
