The Grant Writer’s primary responsibility is to help Catholic Charities Eastern Washington (CCEW) and its programs develop and submit high-quality funding proposal packages to public, corporate, and foundation funding sources. This position focuses substantially on proposal development, though the Grant Writer will occasionally research and vet funding opportunities and support other parts of the grant lifecycle process. The Grant Writer will collaborate closely and frequently with many CCEW staff members. Applications will be accepted through October, and we will begin interviews in mid-late October. Start date in November. Job Duties/Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential duties/responsibilities listed below. Lead the proposal development process, including collaborating with the Grant Administrator to prepare proposal workspaces in Teams/Sharepoint and creating templates; comprehensively reviewing RFP documents and creating checklists; preparing for and leading grant kickoff meetings; taking and sharing notes with the proposal team, tracking all updates and Q/A documents from the funder; setting up and leading pitch meetings with funders; creating and keeping proposal team members on a production timeline; reviewing all proposal documents for accuracy, correctness, and compliance prior to submission; and gathering all proposal documents; and submitting proposals. Collaborating closely, effectively, and professionally with members Senior Leadership Team (executive staff), Leadership Team (VPs and directors), and program staff (managers, coordinators, etc.) to develop high-quality proposal packages. Developing high-quality funding proposal packages, including but not limited to letters of intent; technical, management, and budget narratives; budget documents; and a wide variety of attachments in the style appropriate for the specific funding source. Collaborating as part of the Grants Team and broader Advancement team to support strategic fundraising goals. Facilitating and participating in collaborative review processes. As needed, using databases and other methods to research current and prospective funders and funding opportunities to inform grant strategies, records, and materials. Reviewing and assessing funding opportunities for strategic alignment with organization needs, including participating in developing the annual grants calendar. Maintaining a working knowledge of the interests and expectations of public and private funders. Communicating with and developing relationships with funders and updating Grants Team and other organization staff with pertinent information on funders and opportunities. Conducting independent research to develop application materials. Developing broad working knowledge of Catholic Charities programming. Contributing to official Agency grant files. Work occasional overtime to meet submission deadlines. Attending Catholic Charities events and donor/funder cultivation events as directed. Using appropriate administrative, fiscal, physical, and technical safeguards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and security of CCEW client protected health information (PHI), per regulations outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Regularly utilizing all forms of communication (email, text, phone, etc.) and database practices necessary for this position and as directed by supervisor. Adhering to the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Doctrine. Performing as a team member to assure that productivity outcome measures are achieved. Performing related functions as assigned to support program success and the mission and core values of Catholic Charities. Job Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job. Education/Experience: to perform this job successfully, an individual must have: Bachelor’s Degree in English, Technical/Professional Writing, Journalism, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. At least 1 year experience in public relations writing, grant writing, or similar fundraising roles in a nonprofit setting and/or proposal writing for private companies, especially for public funders. Candidates invited to interview may be asked to complete a writing skills inventory or assessment. Experience using Salesforce or similar grants CRMs, Instrumentl or similar grants search tools, and Microsoft Office Suite software. Certificates/Licenses Certification by recognized grants professional association preferred.
