Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) for Psychiatry Behavioral Medicine Unit
Seattle Children's Hospital is seeking a dedicated, collaborative Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) for a limited-term position exclusively within our specialized Psychiatry Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU).
The PBMU is a secure, short-term (7 to 10 days) inpatient crisis stabilization unit treating children and youth ages 4 to 17. Our unit utilizes Modified Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (M-PBIS) as our guiding care framework and integrates Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) to help youth build long-term coping mechanisms.
In this role, you will provide direct care and assume primary responsibility for the inpatient clinical management of pediatric psychiatry patients. You will work within a tightly-knit, dedicated care team focused on helping youth stabilize and transition safely back to their families and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence & Crisis Management
- Assessment & Evaluation: Obtain comprehensive patient histories, evaluate complex psychiatric conditions, and perform targeted physical examinations as appropriate upon admission and throughout the inpatient stay.
- Diagnostics & Treatment: Order and interpret diagnostic tests. Formulate evidence-based inpatient treatment plans and manage/prescribe psychiatric medications.
- Milieu Engagement: Provide direct clinical management within our structured, age- and need-based inpatient programs (Child, Adolescent, and Biobehavioral Inpatient Programs).
- Continuum of Care: Direct inpatient case management and discharge planning to facilitate seamless transitions to outpatient or community providers.
Collaborative, Family-Centered Teamwork
- Partner closely within a multidisciplinary inpatient team including attending physicians, psychologists, social workers, mental health therapists, and board-certified behavior analysts (BCBAs).
- Actively engage families and caregivers in all aspects of the inpatient stay, including evaluations, education sessions, and transition planning.
Quality Improvement & Education
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to ongoing organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects within the unit.
- Education & Research: Participate in clinical research efforts and champion educational initiatives for patients, families, and the broader healthcare team.

Required Education/Experience:
Master's degree as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner OR graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program
One year work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical area.
Required Credentials:
For Nurse Practitioners:
Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington
Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner
For Physician Assistants:
Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington
Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
For All Providers:
Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals.
Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children's Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuously throughout employment.

Two years experience in advanced practice provider role
Two years experience in pediatric health care
Compensation Range:
$108,336 - $159,332 per year
This position is currently eligible for an off-shift premium of up to 7.5% which would increase the total compensation of this role by an additional $8,125.24 to $11,949.96 per year.
Salary Information
This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
