Department Summary The UCLA International Institute educates students, supports scholarship on the world at UCLA and serves as a campus and community resource.With a history dating back to 1958, the Institute is the central hub for global and area studies on campus. Its more than 27 centers and programs support innovative multidisciplinary research on specific world regions and pressing global issues. Its rigorous academic programs offer degrees in global studies, international development, global health, international migration and diverse regions and countries of the world.The UCLA International Institute is directed by a senior management team led by the Vice Provost for International Studies and Global Engagement, two Associate Vice Provosts and two Assistant Vice Provosts.The Office of the Vice Provost develops and implements UCLA’s global strategy, manages the university’s partnership agreements with foreign educational and research institutions, and represents UCLA to international constituencies and organizations. Position Summary Serve as the Program Manager, Outreach and Development for the International Institute's Center for Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies (TCJS). Responsible for development growth in Japan and the US, contract and grant solicitation and outreach and fundraising activities. Assist the TCJS Director in developing long-term academic plans for the Center. Represent Director in Japan and in meetings with Japan Foundation, delegations of visitors from Japanese Universities, International Institute, and administrators of other campus offices. Oversee the Center's Global Fellows program. Manage and create website content and social media outreach strategies. Serve as liaison with the Japanese Consulate, universities, community groups, other campus units, the media, and distinguished visitors of the Center. Advise on content for workshops, seminars, conferences, and other special events in conjunction with the Director. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Strong oral communications skills to obtain and convey information clearly and to interact with individuals at various levels professionally and diplomatically. Demonstrated organizational skills to research and compile information for grant proposals, reports, and databases. (Required) Ability to design strategies for the cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects that are appropriate to the prospect, to the Center, and to UCLA as an institution of higher learning. (Required) Highly developed writing skills for preparing contract and grant proposals, correspondence, reports, and other documents. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups to incorporate their ideas and to encourage them to take actions and/or make decisions which are appropriate. (Required) Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with faculty and staff as well as high-level University administrators, Government officials, U.S. and foreign educational leaders, funding agency personnel, and private donors. Experience networking in Japan. (Required) Demonstrated ability to facilitate and coordinate planning efforts from conceptual through implementation phases. (Required) Cultural sensitivity to manage working relations with collaborating institutions in Asia, particularly Japan. (Required) Bilingual verbal and writing skills in Japanese and English to compose reports, correspondence, and proposals, and to translate from English-Japanese and vice versa. (Required) Interpersonal skills to relate effectively, invoking appropriate protocol, to a broad range of foreign dignitaries from Asian countries, particularly Japan, including academicians, government and funding agency officials and donors. (Required) Demonstrated skill in public speaking and ability to make oral group presentations. Skill in operating personal computers utilizing Windows in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. (Required) Ability to supervise one or more clerical employees. Extensive knowledge of educational systems, institutions, protocol, and cultural practices in Japan. (Required) Working knowledge of university administrative policies, procedures, and research resources. (Preferred) Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience.
