Job Title Special Education Teacher - Co-Teach Reports To Director of Special Education Classification Professional Location Spring Woods Middle School Salary See Compensation Plan for New Hire Guide for Teachers Primary Purpose Responsible for the instructional program and guidance of students identified as needing special education services. Qualifications / Skills Bachelor's degree in a related field. Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or out‑of‑state teaching certificate appropriate for the position. Special education certificate. ESL certification required in the first year if not already obtained. Certification must meet federal and state requirements for this position. Extensive knowledge of disabling conditions and their impact on student performance. Excellent knowledge of instructional and behavioral accommodations and interventions for students with disabilities. Proficiency in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans for students with moderate to severe behavior concerns. Proficiency in collecting data to establish strengths, needs, and goals for specially designed instruction and progress monitoring. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in the effective use of technology. Physical capacity to meet the needs of students with physical disabilities. Ability to work effectively with both adults and children. Major Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Strategies: Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles, presenting subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations. Participate in the identification and evaluation of learner competencies. Recommend appropriate goals and objectives for learner needs. Assist in developing and writing students' IEPs. Follow specific instructional objectives based on individual student learning styles. Implement new methodologies, philosophies, and innovations. Student Growth and Development: Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. Assist students with physical disabilities. Classroom Management and Organization: Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students; manage behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; assist in selecting instructional materials. Attend required meetings and complete required reports. Communication: Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and community members through conferences and other interactions. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Collaborate with others to address learner needs. Consult with parents and appropriate school personnel regarding each student's intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Professional Growth and Development: Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and documents. Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other: Perform other duties as assigned. Equipment Used Computer, copy machine, and audio‑visual devices. Working Conditions Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Regular in‑person interaction with the public. Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom items. May require occasional extended hours.
