Develop and implement individualized plans for specially designed instruction, enabling students to achieve competencies and skills for independent living, economic self-sufficiency, and full participation in society. Qualifications Texas certification standards required as set by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) ESL Certification preferred or required within two years of employment for teachers hired in the 2010-11 school year Meet NCLB Highly Qualified criteria for the assignment Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and subject matter in the assigned position Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to plan and collaborate with general education teachers to provide high quality specially designed instruction (SDI) Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of specially designed instruction to address student needs related to disability conditions Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations Proficient in use of digital tools including Google Suite, Microsoft 365, ARD/IEP software, and learning management systems Experience Direct work experience with individuals with disabilities preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties Collaborate with general education teachers to provide appropriate SDI for students with disabilities in an inclusive classroom. Serve a diverse population of students participating in state/federal programs as well as general education. Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility. Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies). Confer and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators per building and district guidelines. Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding IEP development, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc. Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations, and administrative directives as they exist or may be amended. Complete documentation of SHARS billable services, including personal care services. Demonstrate and maintain competence in delivering PCS in accordance with IEP requirements. Perform PCS tasks as specified in each student’s IEP. Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all SHARS billable PCS activities. Instructional Strategies Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula, and individual education plans. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEA requirements, district curriculum, and IEPs, providing written evidence of preparation. Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, materials, equipment, and technology to meet diverse learning styles and needs. Implement instructional and linguistic modifications and/or accommodations per ARD and LPAC committees. Work cooperatively with general education teachers to support special education students per IEP guidelines. Determine measurable instructional goals and SDI according to student needs related to disability. Track, monitor, and document student progress for IEP progress updates. Provide immediate feedback and progress reports regularly per building and district guidelines. Administer district and state assessments as appropriate. Supervise implementation of IEP goals/objectives by paraprofessionals. Classroom Management and Organization Create an inviting, risk‑free, supportive, and warm learning environment appropriate to developmental level and interests. Implement effective behavior management systems aligned with student behavior intervention plans and district policies. Manage student behavior per behavior intervention plans, Student Code of Conduct, and handbook. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records. Provide or supervise specially designed instruction related to behavior. Professional Growth and Development Participate in professional development activities to improve job‑related skills. Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and policies for classroom teachers. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other Responsibilities Supervise/Oversee services required by the IEP when provided by a paraprofessional. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain technology competence to meet current and future district needs. Implement alternative instruction methods as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
